I know people were depressed during The Great Depression, but I'm convinced it's worse today.
The depression (psychological, not economic) in the 1930s was the result of a sudden economic downturn after a period of prosperity. Today, it's not the result of short-term economic trends, but the overall shitness of society.
Furthermore, The Great Depression only lasted a few years then life got better again as the economy improved. Today, things have been getting worse for a lot longer and they couldn't possibly get better without enormous systemic change.
From an economic standpoint, the 1929 crash was worse than what we experienced in 2008, but it was a temporary economic slump. Today, we're in a decline which transcends economic cycles.

Trades and office work really are different universes. Before covid, I worked in a shop, sweaty men, loud noises, dangerous metal stuff. Business was growing so the office people, including business suit hr lady, started spending more time around the shop.
One Wednesday during safety training, two guys got into it over borrowing of expensive tools. Ethnic slurs where used, old-school stuff. Everyone else laughing our asses off, and hr lady was there looking like she just witness a double murder.
The next week was her trying to get everyone to file complaints against everyone else. All 30 guys straight up called her a liar to corporate and she was completely humiliated, run out of the company.
I don't know how anyone with a soul survives corpo-fem-hr he'll. I know I never could.

You don't marry a girl. You marry a family. The modern world tells you that doesn't matter, but it does. The girls with bad families who will make good wives and mothers is single digit %.
When I was given the opportunity to interview for this new position, I told my wife about it, and she was VERY excited.
Naturally, she told her mom after my interview was over.
A day later, she texts my wife & says, “Hey, the new job is still a secret, right?”
Wife replies, “Yeah, because it hasn’t been offered yet.”
Her mom replies, “Oh okay, I was going to tell your dad. He’s told me multiple times that he’s been stressed that [Maw] hasn’t found a better paying job yet. But I’ll wait.”
So yesterday, I was at my in-laws, I didn’t know ANY of this information.
I tell them both that I got promoted, my father-in-law very uncharacteristically expressed a lot of excitement. My wife later told me she hasn’t seen her dad excited like that in a very long time.
She later told me all the above information and that he’s been praying about me getting a better job for a long time.
It was very touching to me. My father-in-law is a very reserved man who doesn’t show much emotion, but he had a lot of emotion about this. I was very moved by it.
