I am organising an open letter from impacted businesses to Rachel Reeves urging her to immediately change course on business rates.
Business owners - read the letter below, and if you agree, sign it through this link...

‘My business rates are going up over 100%.’
@ChefTomKerridge shocks @TomSwarbrick1 with how his businesses are being hit by Labour’s taxes on pubs.

Still confused about what the Budget means for Britain’s pubs?
Let us break it down for you. Our Tax and Trade Policy Manager, @morganschondelmeier, explains why the government’s so-called “golden era of hospitality” isn’t all it’s cracked up to be and unpacks why pubs across the country will face much higher bills next year as a result of the government’s failure to deliver meaningful business rates reform.
It's time for the Government to recognise the disproportionate tax bill facing pubs up and down the country and revisit their policy package for Britain's beer and pub sector.

Unemployment nightmare is entirely Labour’s fault cityam.com/unemployment-nigh…
170,000 jobs lost since the last election
Unemployment now at 5% and the OECD, expect the rate to climb higher next year.
Hardest hit sector, yep #Hospitality
Raising the minimum wage, will, has and is causing job Losses.
No point in forced higher wages, if there are no dam jobs🤦♂️
The hospitality sector did employ over 3 MILIION.
That's why it is so important that we #SaveHospitality

Nobody in government seems to grasp what is coming for British hospitality in 2026.
It will be a bloodbath.
- Business rates are set to rocket.
- Wage costs are rising again.
- Energy prices remain brutal.
- Alcohol duty has been hiked.
And Labour has just stripped away the reliefs that kept thousands of pubs, restaurants and hotels alive.
The numbers are stark:
Some pubs will see their rates bills rise by 200–400%.
Big hotels will be dragged into the new super-multiplier, facing increases of hundreds of thousands.
A sector already on its knees is about to be kicked through the floor.
Your favourite local pub, the family-run restaurant, the independent café on your high street; most cannot absorb another cost shocks of this scale.
They will either raise prices to insane levels or close for good.
Labour’s plan? Load more costs onto them and call it fairness while pretending the sector will somehow survive when the maths says otherwise.
Hospitality is not a luxury.
It is one of the country’s biggest employers.
It keeps communities alive, high streets functioning and local economies breathing.
If the government stays on this path, Britain will lose thousands of venues.
Jobs, culture and small family businesses will vanish.
We need to wake up.
This is not economic management; it is economic vandalism.
Once these places are gone, they are gone for good.

"This is a hammer blow and it will be existential for many. They simply won't be able to find those extra costs."
With business rates bills up 76% for an average pub and 115% for an average hotel, our Chair @UKHospKate spoke to @itvnews about the impact of the Budget last week.
