FROM RESTRICTION TO OPPORTUNITY: WHAT A SANCTIONS-FREE ZIMBABWE CAN UNLOCK!
25 October is SADC Anti-Sanctions Day, established by the 39th SADC Summit in 2019. SADC Anti-Sanctions Day 2026 carries a clear message: 1 Region, 1 Voice — Lift Sanctions on Zimbabwe.
For Zimbabwe, the call is not simply about the removal of restrictive measures. It is about creating the conditions for sustainable development, deeper regional trade and Zimbabwe’s full participation in the economic life of Southern Africa.
Zimbabwe has consistently maintained that sanctions and other restrictive measures have constrained access to finance, investment and international economic engagement. The position is shared at the regional level, SADC has repeatedly called for the removal of sanctions, recognising that restrictions affecting one member state have wider implications for regional integration and development.
There are also signs that the international environment can change. In February 2026, the European Union lifted its travel bans and asset freezes relating to Zimbabwe, while retaining an arms embargo. The EU simultaneously expressed its intention to deepen engagement with Zimbabwe, including in trade and investment.
That development demonstrates the importance of continued engagement. The next step is to remove the remaining restrictive measures and establish a framework in which Zimbabwe can trade, attract investment, industrialise and contribute fully to regional growth.

The Chipinge Town Council demolished the town’s only Islamic place of worship, the Din Mahomed Shemeem Mosque, yesterday. Municipal authorities targeted the building after determining that it was an illegal infrastructure built in violation of local municipal by-laws.

Commending H.E @edmnangagwa for taking swift statutory action to address the devastation in #MasvingoProvince. This #StateOfDisaster declaration paves the way for full state resource deployment for rapid emergency interventions & coordinated relief for those affected.
Urban planning by-laws exist to ensure safety, proper zoning & structural integrity for everyone. #ChipingeTownCouncil enforcing local regulations through #OperationChenesa shows a firm commitment to maintaining municipal order & equal application of the law. @Zim_Vision2030
