Lots of great fungi in Stony Brook SP last weekend! Striking how one species was growing only in the sapwood region of the log. Small red one is likely some kind of Tremella (?), and the larger red one is likely Hemlock varnish shelf fungus (Ganoderma sp).

Rant: Last year all grad school letters of rec I submitted simply had me upload a letter. This year, EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. required ~15 min of rating the applicant + filling out short answer questions.

Anyone else experiencing this trend? Anyone on grad admissions committees - do you use this data? Or do you mainly look at the letter itself?
