How Could U.S Midterms Affect Global Human Rights Movements? What happens at the ballot box in the United States doesn’t stay in the United States. As the U.S. midterms approach, our Executive Director, Essy Adhiambo talks to Jewish World Service @ajws on how the outcome could help or hinder human rights movements around the world, including the activists and communities who work on the frontlines far from Washington. For movements in Kenya and across the Global South, decisions on foreign policy, funding and diplomacy shape the space civil society has to organise, document abuses and demand accountability. Anti-LGBTIQ+ legislation and rhetoric do more than make headlines. They push human beings to the extreme margins and diminish the lived realities of people across Africa. This episode Queering the Ballot II Podcast Moderated by Kevin Mwachiro @kevmwachiro , features Tabitha Saoyo, a human rights lawyer ,Melody Njuki @melodynyuki communication strategist from @INENDorg Chepkirui Ronoh Programs lead from @galck_ke hold a candid conversation on who carries the burden of countering disinformation, what allyship really looks like in political and civic spaces, and why intentional voting matters. Together, they reflect on how the work of pushing back against disinformation often falls back on queer people, allies, organizers and the movement itself, and how support from some allies can feel seasonal, showing up only for specific moments. They also unpack the hesitancy that keeps allies, especially politicians, from standing firm: fear of losing votes, family backlash, or losing societal privilege. And they ask what it means to be intentional about voting for allies, even when a queer candidate is not on the ballot. A conversation on who shows up, who stays, and what we demand of those who say they stand with us:youtu.be/JO36W6KKYwM?si=xt3G… 📍 Location: @queerafricannet 🎥 Shot by: Receptive media QTB II Podcast, a project by Initiative for Equality and Non Discrimination, National Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (NGLHRC) , @NGLHRC , and galck+ #OurVoteOurFuture #equalityandjusticeforall #QueeringTheBallot

Safe abortion Concepts we're tired of explaining as feminists: 1.Safe abortion is healthcare. 2.Restricting it doesn't stop abortion , it just stops safe abortion and every time we have to re-litigate that basic fact, someone pays for it with their health, or their life. We shouldn't have to keep explaining this. But we will, for as long as it takes. #SafeAbortion #ReproductiveJustice #BodilyAutonomy #FeministsSpeak #InternationalSafeAbortionday

Kenya Ni Nchi Yetu! From corruption in public contracts to a single nurse caring for 20 patients in public hospitals, this conversation lays bare why democracy has to work for everyone at the margins, not just the few. Queering the ballot is not only about LGBTIQ+ people, rather, it is also about what and whom Kenyan Democracy has failed since independence, and the oppressive structures and burdens that we have had to endure as wananchi of this country due to bad governance. Catch this conversation with Kevin Mwachiro @kevmwachiro , Essy Adhiambo and Diana Gichengo of @TISAKenya as they delve on that here: youtu.be/XAEuSMf95vk?si=_XEg… #QueeringTheBallot is a campaign by Initiative for Equality and Non Discrimination @INENDorg galck+ @galckplus and the National Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission @NGLHRC 📍: @queerafricannet 🎥 Shot by: @rcptvmedia #OurVoteOurFuture #InclusiveDemocracy #Kenya2027 #DemocracyForAll #FreeKenyaFromDebts

Democracy is not truly democratic when some of us are free and others are left behind As we look forward to marking the International Day of Democracy this 15th September, Queering the Ballot II (QTB II), a campaign led by @INENDorg , @galckplus , and @NGLHRC stands with all people in Kenya facing xenophobia, harassment, and exclusion. The rhetoric that paints migrants as threats, queer people as outsiders, or informal workers as disposable serves one dangerous idea that frames some people as deserving fewer rights. We reject that idea. #QueeringTheBallot #OurVoteOurFuture #InternationalDayOfDemocracy

Have you watched our most recent episode of Queering the Ballot II yet? 👀 As we head towards another election, host Kevin Mwachiro @kevmwachiro is joined by Diana Gichengo of @TISAKenya and Essy Adhiambo @Essy_Emilly to ask what it really means to choose our leaders. Wealth should not be a substitute for a track record of working for the people, and feeling removed from what is happening around us should not be an excuse for political apathy. Because for most of us, regardless of where we live or what we have, we are only as protected as the systems around us. Our responsibility doesn’t start or end at the ballot box✊🏾 🎥 The full Episode 5 is now available on YouTube:youtu.be/XAEuSMf95vk?si=LSQW… 📍: @queerafricannet 🎥 Shot by: @rcptvmedia #QueeringTheBallotII #OurVoteOurFuture #TukoKadi #CivicParticipation Queering the Ballot is a project by @INENDorg , @galckplus and @NGLHRC .

This #SuicidePreventionMonth , we are thinking about the ways our societies can either make life more difficult or make it more possible.🎗️ For so many of us, the ability to see a future for ourselves is deeply connected to how we are treated, what protections exist for us and whether we are able to live with dignity and belonging. #SuicidePrevention #MentalHealthMatters #EqualityandJusticeforAll

Prevention is also about creating environments where people have reasons to feel safe, connected and hopeful about the lives ahead of them. That means looking beyond individual experiences and asking what needs to change around us. #SuicidePrevention #MentalHealthMatters #EqualityandJusticeforAll

From protection against gender-based violence to equal pay, WOMEN'S and girls’ human rights remain unequal under the law, as impunity for violations of women and girls persists worldwide-UN Women , APRIL 2026 #WomensEqualityDay

On 31 July, we invited you to Thika for what we envisioned to be a peaceful space for learning, dialogue, and civic participation. 🇰🇪 Instead, what unfolded became a stark reminder that many Kenyans still face barriers when exercising their constitutional rights. #ProtectCivicSpace #CivicParticipation #QueeringTheBallot #Democracy
