The Nigerian Police reportedly went to the house of this Twitter influencer @IU_Wakilii and when they couldn’t find him, they arrested his brother in his place and towed his car. What exactly is his brother’s offence? Why should an innocent family member be made to suffer for someone else’s alleged offence? Liability is personal. A person should not be arrested or detained merely because they are related to, or share a family with a suspect. ARREST IN LIEU IS ILLEGAL. The Nigerian Police must respect the rule of law and stop subjecting innocent family members to intimidation and unlawful detention. Is being in opposition now a criminal offence in Nigeria? Must people who disagree with those in power be subjected to harassment, intimidation and persecution? Since when did expressing dissent become a crime?
