An invoice is a claim about a trade, written by one side of it. Around $1.6 trillion moves through trade-based money laundering each year, and 63% of it runs on manipulated invoices. A lender reading that document on its own is reading the seller's version of events. A second signature, from a party with nothing to gain, changes what the document is.

They adopt chains they can trust. That means a non-profit foundation and on-chain privacy that doesn't leak their counterparties.

A container can cross a country in a day, then wait at the port while its documents are confirmed one party at a time. When the proof is recorded at source, it reaches the other end before the cargo does. A lender reading it can act while the goods are still moving. IOTA is the layer that proof runs on.

A funder can hold a signed invoice for a shipment that was never loaded. A bill of lading is meant to prove otherwise, and it can be issued for cargo nobody has seen. Without the shipment, the funder is lending unsecured and does not know it.

A line of trucks at a border is a queue waiting on paperwork. Each consignment gets checked on its own, by parties who cannot see the same record, one at a time. Wider roads only move that queue further down the line. More doesn't mean scalable. Verifying the data once does.

Two lenders can finance the same trade without either one knowing. Each sees paperwork that looks complete. Neither can see the other's books. On shared infrastructure a trade has one record, and a lender can check whether it has already been used as security.
