📢CFP "Reclaiming the Majority" Workshop @IJURResearch
Urban theory keeps starting in the metropolis. But most of the urban population lives in small cities building their own rules & spatialities.
What if theory started there instead?

Meet the speakers for the upcoming Publics@IIHS lecture.
Carol Upadhya, Honorary Visiting Professor at National Institute of Advanced Studies, will present her book, Chronicles of a Global City: Speculative Lives and Unsettled Futures. She will be in conversation with Sudeshna Mitra, Associate Dean, IIHS School of Economic Development.
Drawing from the Speculative Urbanism project, the session will unpack how finance capital, real estate, labour, and ecology shape the city. Moving beyond familiar growth narratives of Bengaluru, the discussion will turn to the everyday—tracing aspirations, struggles, and unequal urban transformations across housing, land, labour, and community life.

La vivienda en alquiler se ha convertido en un gran negocio. Los rentistas controlan la economía y la política, pero destrozan la sociedad.
Hay alternativas. La generación inquilina puede acabar con esta desigualdad y cambiar el modelo para siempre.

How Do Cities Really Work? | City Walks for Youth
What stories does Kolkata tell through its markets, streets, transport, and housing?
Join the first in IIHS’ curated series of City Walks for Youth, designed for final-year undergraduate students and young professionals. This immersive morning walk invites you to see the city through an analytical lens—unpacking how history, trade, migration, infrastructure, and everyday life have shaped its urban form.
From the economic networks of Bara Bazaar to public spaces and contestations, from housing typologies to transport systems, this walk approaches heritage not as a static backdrop but as a living archive of social and economic change.
