𝐇𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐛𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝐡𝐨𝐦𝐞.- “Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home - so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any maps of the world. Yet they are the world of the individual person; the neighborhood he lives in; the school or college he attends; the factory, farm, or office where he works. Such are the places where every man, woman, and child seeks equal justice, equal opportunity, equal dignity without discrimination. Unless these rights have meaning there, they have little meaning anywhere. Without concerted citizen action to uphold them close to home, we shall look in vain for progress in the larger world.” Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt with their children in Washington DC, June 12, 1919. Educating children about their human rights from an early age is crucial. It can significantly impact their perception and appreciation of other people's human rights. Moreover, it can empower them to advocate for their human rights and strive for a fair and impartial society. By introducing human rights education at a young age, we can firmly implant these principles in children's minds and hearts, creating a solid foundation for their growth as compassionate and responsible individuals. This approach enables children to grasp the significance of fairness, equality, and respect for everyone, which can help shape a better future for all. #HumanRightsEducation

#derechoshumanos

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is an AMAZING document. Eleanor Roosevelt, chair of the writing group, called it a new "Magna Carta for all mankind." Roosevelt insisted that the declaration's language be brief and simple so that ALL PEOPLE could understand it. #humanrightseducation #30articles #EleanorRoosevelt

Today, on the seventh anniversary of Maestro Carlos Cruz-Diez’s passing, we honor his memory and celebrate the enduring power of his legacy. He died in Paris on July 27, 2019, but those who transform the way we see the world never truly leave us. Cruz-Diez was a pillar of Venezuelan culture and an essential figure in the history of universal art. He was an extraordinary creator, but also an admirable human being: an example of love for Venezuela, perseverance, discipline, generosity, and integrity. Maestro Cruz-Diez holds a privileged place in our hearts, and his color continues to travel across the world, defying time and filling every space it touches with light. He generously created and donated to International Solidarity for Human Rights one of his architectural integrations: Induction Chromatique, Right to Culture. Our Foundation, in turn, donated it to @MDCollege, where it remains installed today at the Wolfson Campus in Miami, as a living testament to the idea that culture is also a human right. Thank you, Maestro, for your work, your example, and the immense honor of allowing us to safeguard a small part of your universe. Seven years later, you remain there: in the light, in the color, and in our memory. Always present. @CarlosCruzDiez @cruzdiezfound @gabocruz10 @MDCollege @devorahsasha @elhabito @anileonardi

Siempre presente. @cruzdiezfound @cruzdiezfound

✨🤝🌎 On Workers’ Day, let us remember that work is not only a means of survival: it is dignity, a life project, and a human right. Every person deserves fair conditions, a sufficient wage, respect, safety, and the real possibility of building a future through their own effort. To honor workers is to defend a society where living from one’s work is not a privilege, but a guarantee.

The drafters of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights extensively reviewed approximately 50 contemporary constitutions to ensure the comprehensive inclusion of rights from diverse cultures and nations. Notably, the influence of the United States Declaration of Independence and the Four Freedoms proclaimed by U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt in 1941 was significant. President Roosevelt defined essential human freedoms as freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear, explaining that 'freedom means the supremacy of human rights everywhere.' These principles served as great inspiration for the UDHR's provisions. However, it's essential to recognize that while the UDHR was influenced by documents like the United States Declaration of Independence and the Four Freedoms, it transcends any single national or cultural tradition, aiming to articulate fundamental human rights that apply to all people regardless of their nationality, ethnicity, or background. #UDHR #humanrights #humanrightseducation

How can I teach human rights when I have never studied them? What if I can’t answer people’s questions? Few of us had an opportunity to study human rights during our formal schooling. This is part of the problem. The foundation of all learning is inspiring interest, curiosity, and personal connection to the subject matter. Research shows that people of all ages remember and integrate best when participating in their learning. You don’t have to know all the answers to facilitate human rights education; you have to know how to help people, including yourself, look for answers. "Experts" can evoke passivity, boredom, or a sense of incompetence, especially if they present human rights from a strictly legal perspective. You need not be an expert with a legal background. You do need to be willing to be part of the learning process. Therefore, the most effective educational techniques in human rights education offer a high level of active participation, using role-plays, debates, discussions, drama, and small group work. #humanrightseducation #teachers

#EleanorRoosevelt #derechoshumanos #educacion Eleanor Roosevelt with a child from the Heart Fund, circa 1962. 📷Attribution (CC BY 2.0)
