BREAKING NEWS: Alley Cat Allies filed a landmark* lawsuit against the City of Lincolnton and Mayor Mike McCombs for unlawfully permitting a private citizen—Mayor McCombs’ wife, Lizzy Long—to shoot and kill Piper the cat. The entire incident was captured on police body camera in April 2026. Piper did not die immediately from the gunshot and suffered extreme distress before succumbing to the injury. Although a warrant was issued for Long’s arrest for animal cruelty, it was recalled the very same day. Public officials and their friends and family are not above the law. Mayor McCombs and the City of Lincolnton must answer for the heinous cruelty to Piper and abuse of authority. Alley Cat Allies will not stop fighting until Piper receives justice. Thank you for helping Alley Cat Allies save kittens' lives when they need us most! While on the ground in Granite Shoals, Texas, our team discovered Shadow, Midnight, and Tiger--neonatal kitten siblings with upper respiratory infections. We rushed them to veterinary care at our clinic that same day, and we're happy to report all are doing well! Now's when that fall feeling really kicks in. Happy November! 🍂🐱 As the weather gets cooler, there are ways we can help cats outdoors stay warm. Community cats are well-adapted to outdoor living, but we can still lend a hand. An outdoor shelter insulated with straw (not hay!) is a great place to start!
