I just can’t believe I talked to Moses Matovu last evening at Sheraton. He played at the farewell party of the outgoing Executive Director of the @PAU_Uganda. I told him about my late mother’s Afrigo collection and how my brother and I traded her tapes. I appreciated his craft. To wake up to his demise this morning is something I just can’t wrap my head around.
Rest in peace legend.

What a cold day for the Ugandan music & broader creative arts industry!
Moses Matovu’s signature tune “Olimugyawa (Sikulimba)” which is the anthem of Gen X parties in Uganda will now also become a sour memory of Kampala’s persistent crime problem.
The Late Matovu (June 1949 – 24 Sep 2026) was an Ugandan saxophonist, vocalist, and bandleader who co-founded Afrigo Band in 1975 and led it for more than five decades.

Today I participated in the Board of peace meeting on the reconstruction of Gaza, where an impressive detailed plan was presented. I held a discussion with members of the board that include @jaredkushner @InstituteGC @SEPeaceMissions and @USAmbUN. Uganda will be contributing troops to the International stabilization force for Gaza. Thank you @KagutaMuseveni for your vision of accepting Uganda to be part of this historic endeavor and @mkainerugaba for your leadership in planning for our contingent.
