SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)
Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.
His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

In all the @DivOneEsports Broadcasts, this is what I strive to do. Make sure its easy to see whose playing, telling the stories of the players and making sure everyone is represented. Its a big difference when you can get the players stories out there, especially out of game ones
a love letter to college esports programs 💌
Putting faces to the names of the players that compete for your program on your social media will help more people care about your matches and provide more value to the students on your teams ‼️
Posting match days is a great start to covering your teams but how can you expect the parents, friends, and general college esports scene to care about your games & interact with your posts if the only visual representation they ever get are renders of the in game characters your players are playing as.
**(Doing both is good and we also do this at Winthrop in certain situations or for specific purposes)**
I would rather see a cell phone photo used than ever see a student go four years practicing, competing, and even potentially winning championships for your school than have them never receive any real recognition for the time put in.
This isn’t a hateful message - I know that some program’s socials are run by a director wearing 10 hats or a student new to everything and trying their best.
In the past 7 years that I’ve been around this has improved tenfold, just wanted to shout into the abyss one more time and convince more ppl to follow suit.

Hey Summoners Weekly community! ❤️
I wanted to share a little personal update with everyone.
Unfortunately, I’ve recently learned that I’ll be losing my full-time job due to an unexpected employment change. While this wasn’t something I had planned for, I’m trying to look at it as an opportunity to pursue something I’m genuinely passionate about.
For those who don’t know, I spent over 11 years at Apple, working across retail, software quality assurance, and customer-facing experiences. More recently, I’ve worked in marketing, development, content creation, and digital media production.
Through Summoners Weekly, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to build relationships with people throughout the Riftbound community, cover competitive events, interview players and industry professionals, and create content around a game and community I’ve grown to love.
I’m actively looking for new opportunities, whether that’s a full-time position, freelance work, or potential partnerships for Summoners Weekly.
My experience includes:
•🎥 Video production, editing, and content strategy
•📱 Social media management and community engagement
•🎮 Gaming, esports, and tabletop industry content
•💻 Software QA, testing, and product feedback
•📈 Marketing, partnerships, and project management
If you know of any companies hiring, opportunities in the gaming industry, or organizations that could benefit from my experience or what we’re building with Summoners Weekly, I’d genuinely appreciate a connection or recommendation.
I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve built here, and regardless of what comes next, Summoners Weekly isn’t going anywhere.
Thank you all for being part of this community. It means more to me than you know. ❤️
Feel free to DM me if anything comes to mind!
With Love,
- JD

Pokémon UNITE is shutting down.
The game will officially close on March 23, 2027. This affects both the Nintendo Switch and mobile versions.
Starting today, Aeos Gem sales are ending, and new UNITE Club memberships and automatic renewals will no longer be available.
There will also be no offline mode after the shutdown. Once the servers close, the game will no longer be playable.

🚨Rare Serious, No Ragebait Jolly Tweet 🚨
While everyone is distracted by Worlds and speculating on which LCK team is going to win it, I am here speculating and distracted by the future of my org @_BulldogEsports
We are 2-3 months from Winter Split 2027 starting for Tier 2, and I am still unsure if there will be a league for my team to compete in.
8 Months ago Leaguesgg went bust because of mismanagement by CEO Christian Henriksen and COO Mathias Horn. (We are still owed thousands from this, between all 10 teams and money owed to production and talent, the total number could be in six figures owed).
Road of Legends TO GameWaves took over as interim TO for the remainder of 2026. Although it was not perfect, they did a good job of managing stepping in and managing the league in sustainable way.
Riot announced in July they will be splitting the NLC into two distinct ERLs, one for Nordics and one for UK.
The bid process for the UK has ended and we still have no idea who got it. @TheUKEL bid and Riot declined them, I know of one other bid that withdrew.
The person who should be communicating with teams, Andrey Korshunov (Product Manager for ERLs/EMEA) has gone on annual leave/holiday.
As an owner I would love to be able to start my 2027 planning, work out our split by split budget etc, instead we are stuck in this limbo because of the disregard and lack of professionalism that Riot shows towards their product.
I'm hearing worrying rumours that to prop up LFL, Riot will be siphoning sponsorship money that was meant for other leagues to pay NEO to be TO.
The one common denominator in all these issues is Riot and their lack of communication to teams.
It is a continued trend within Tier 2 that teams and TOs will fund the scene at a loss because Riot refuses to fund it. Yet Riot are also the ones making major decisions without consulting the teams/TOs or giving proper notice.
Artem Bykov and Chris Greeley will yap about "interesting developments in Tier 2" but will take no action.
I think it is time we took the action into our own hands.
There are 100+ teams in the ERLs right now.
As one annoying and belligerent owner who likes to shitpost/ragebait, my voice does very little, however united we can pressure Riot in a way that no one individual could and achieve meaningful change in our dying scene.
What I am proposing is something similar to European Club Association, which is recognised by UEFA and protects the interests of is 800+ members.
I have a feeling if we (NLC owners) are being shafted by Riot, then the likelihood is they are treating other owners across the 13 ERLs the same.
If you want to sign up and get in touch with me so we can start this process fill out this form and add me on discord:
forms.gle/vLrYjeHwPXoRdPga9
I would appreciate RTs and Likes from anyone that wants to help save Tier 2 League of Legends, because it is pretty clear Riot has no interest in doing so.
I really believe we can save this scene we are all so passionate about, however we can only achieve that if we start communicating.
