SIR PATRICK STEWART (1940-2026)
Before everything else, Patrick was defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire, the proud county in the north of England which he loved to the end. You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt. Yorkshiremen have no truck with half-truths or avoidance of big issues. He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love.
We first met as ambitious young actors with the Royal Shakespeare Company half a century ago but we weren’t in the same productions. My first strong memory was a few years later, meeting him in the street in central London when he told me about an offer to take over a leading part in 'Star Trek'. “But Patrick think of your stage career in the UK. Do you really want to risk—getting lost in Hollywood for years and years?”. Well, he took the risk and thank goodness for us all that he did for not just his devoted Trekkies but film and theatre audiences, who marvelled at his using international celebrity to star in a string of cinema successes ('X-Men' of course) and in great classical plays by Shakespeare, Ibsen, Arthur Miller, Peter Shaffer, Pinter and Beckett at Stratford-upon-Avon, in London’s West End and on Broadway.
America was his adopted home, where he met his adored Sunny who has cared for him through sickness and health, through thick and thin. But he never forsook his origins: and the proudest achievement of the most respected and beloved actor of his generation on either side of the Atlantic, was his appointment as Chancellor of Huddersfield University in Yorkshire.
His farewell performance in 'Avengers: Doomsday' is yet to be seen.

Man, oh man. Obama just roasted Trump and some of his cabinet members for minutes in Atlanta. Stop what you're doing and watch this. There is no way Trump is sleeping tonight.

Here’s another clip of a woman reading Trump’s words verbatim from a recent rally in Mississippi that puts a giant magnifying glass over how gone he is cognitively and unfit he is for office.
I ♥️ seeing people realise just how charismatic and funny Prince William is, and that he has absolutely no problem laughing at himself. This clip of him on The Graham Norton Show is the perfect example of that. The poor man was absolutely red in the face from laughing so much!😂
#FinancialServices people, who is the worst firm for not giving any feedback after you’ve gone to the effort on spending hours completing a job application form? You know the ones who still have the application as “pending” on their website 12 months later!

Interesting to see that #HappyMammoth has blocked me rather than investigate whether their product causes kidney stones. Internet sold supplements are outside the scope of #UKTradingStandards so beware as there is no authority able to police this!
Interesting to see that @HappyMammothUS has blocked me, rather than making any attempt to investigate whether their product does actually cause kidney stones. Sadly reported to #UKtradingstandards but unwilling to help as sold over the internet from the US. Approach with caution

Replying to @RpsAgainstTrump
The trade war with Canada shows Trump's brainless actions. But it also makes it clear how stupid the scientifically based statements are in the press of business experts who have no idea about Canada 🤢🤮
Ships entering the Great Lakes must sail through the Welland Canal. The 27-mile canal contains eight locks, and its entire length extends over Ontario, Canada. This means that $26.3 billion of American trade depends on unhindered access to a waterway being completely under Canadian jurisdiction 👍🥰😄😂😂😂
"Now, all we need is an ocean. So maybe we'll have to change the name of the Atlantic and or the Pacific. Maybe we'll change them both."
Is there an adult in the room @USCongress_ that can take the keyboard away from this child? #DonaldTrump #petulance #lakeontario

Gianni Infantino surely cannot survive as FIFA president now. UEFA, AFC and CONCACAF have begun preliminary discussions about the possibility of organizing competitions among themselves to ensure that players can continue to compete - such as in the Women’s Under-20s World Cup which starts in less than a month - and are not impacted by the ongoing crisis surrounding Gianni Infantino.
The message from the three confederations to Infantino is very clear. He is being given the opportunity to resign and leave his position with dignity. He has the opportunity to go now and should not seek re-election in March. Because the pressure, the heat and the headlines are not going away. Change has to come. Infantino has to go.
Our 2nd XI played a league division 6 cricket match today. #BigMan skipper from the opposition bowls 3 quick head height bouncers at our small 13 year old. Does that mean he has a tiny pen$i$ ?? #cricket @ECB_cricket #villlagecricket

There is no shortage of issues regarding FIFA. Let me start by clarifying what some of these are from an FA perspective, in particular that of Jordan going into a World Cup for the first time.
We are a small country with a minimal budget for our FA and had to deal with enormous hurdles. First, getting our fans into the USA: not all were granted VISAS, even though they had tickets -which we also know were sold at exorbitant prices. Secondly, we are being taxed by the US govt through FIFA for our participation. Money that should go to players and staff. This was not the case for those who played and set up camp in Canada and Mexico. But we happened to be in the USA so now we face these huge costs in taxes for having participated.
Thirdly we have been waiting for reward money for our players since December for the Arab cup in Qatar, which is a FIFA event. The money our team should receive for having reached the final has not been delivered yet, while at the same time FIFA brags about how many billions they have in reserve.
It is clear the problem really is with leadership. For months, FIFA has been refusing to help us on any of these or other matters- until it was verbally communicated to me during the World Cup that if I endorsed Infantino it would go a long way to helping our FA out.
We pride ourselves in Jordan in upholding ethical values. We did not endorse him before and certainly will not now. But the whole situation amounts to blackmail and we refuse to give in to that.
