Governor Morrisey told reporters that school aid issues would "dominate" the 2027 legislative session but did not indicate whether he would increase public school funding in his FY 2028 budget proposal.

I asked Gov. Morrisey today if we could see a special session on public school funding before end of year. He didn’t totally rule it out and mentioned lawmakers will be in town next month (true). But he was quick to say it will be the top issue of the 2027 session.

Mountaineer Conservative Action, a PAC linked to Sen. Pres. Randy Smith, just dropped $100k on negative mailers against Del. Shawn Fluharty.
The PAC has now spent nearly $200k exclusively against the democratic state Senate candidate-- more than any other in the general so far.

Through reporting this, I learned that under current state law, the Hope Scholarship office isn’t notified when a parent faces criminal charges, nor is there a requirement for the Hope account holder to report such charges — like child abuse charges. westvirginiawatch.com/2026/1…

New: I looked into a WV child abuse case involving students using the Hope Scholarship.
I found challenges for public schools tasked with attendance monitoring for Hope students, including children missing school and in potentially dangerous situations.

Last week, two women died when their car went up and over the interstate barrier at the I-64/77 split, landing in the gravel pit below. Theirs was the sixth crash and eighth death since May 2025 in the same spot.

Flock cameras installed years before councils approved them, sometimes $10 below amounts that would trigger reviews by elected representatives. And lists of plates ignored by Flock cameras. New investigation:
