ALT The most decorated member of the famous Devil’s Brigade, he was one of only three Canadians to earn both the Military Medal and the American Silver Star during the Second World War. He later served with Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry during the Korean War. After his war service, he became a First Nations advocate and pushed for changes to the Indian Act and respect for First Nations land rights. He eventually fell into poverty and was forced to sell his medals. The American film The Devil’s Brigade removed him completely from the story.
