Born on 7 May 1861 in Calcutta, Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore was a poet, philosopher, composer, playwright, painter and visionary educationist. 🔹 1913: Became the first non-European to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature, celebrated for Gitanjali (Song Offerings). 🔹 2,000+ songs: His musical composition include the songs that became the national anthem of 🇮🇳 India. 🔹 A visionary educationist: Founded Visva-Bharati, an international centre of learning in India, bringing together students and scholars from around the world to exchange knowledge, ideas and cultures. 🌊 A Cypriot voice for a Bengali poet Dr. Iosif S. Iosifidis (Joseph S. Josephides) is a mathematician, economist and poet, and a former President of the Cyprus Writers’ Union and the Cyprus Academy of Sciences. He has translated 70 of Tagore’s poems into Greek. He describes Tagore’s poetry as a river so transparent, yet so profoundly deep.
