Communication and Public Relations professionals have been challenged to adopt proactive approaches and adequately prepare for potential reputational risks by anticipating emerging issues, embracing technology and strengthening strategic communication to safeguard organisational reputation and enhance service delivery.
The call was made by Kenya Film Classification Board (@InfoKfcb ) Ag. CEO, Ms. @NellyMuluka, during the CEO's panel discussion at the ongoing 5th East Africa PR Week and 21st PRSK Annual Summit (#EAPRW2026), held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at Diamonds Malindi in Kilifi County.
Ms. Muluka joined fellow Chief Executives Officers in a discussion titled โThe Business of Reputation: Brand Value, Strategic Positioning and Growth,โ which explored the role of strategic communication in shaping organisational reputation, strengthening brand value and driving sustainable business growth.
Ms. Muluka emphasised that communication should be positioned as a strategic function within organisations, with PR and Communications professionals taking an active role in organisational decision-making, identifying emerging issues and preparing adequately for potential reputational challenges.
She further highlighted the importance of leveraging technology, strengthening stakeholder engagement and aligning communication strategies with institutional priorities to build trust, protect brand value and support sustainable growth.
She also highlighted the measures KFCB continues to implement to safeguard children from inappropriate audiovisual content, particularly during the school holiday period. She called on parents and guardians to take an active role in monitoring the content children access and promoting responsible media consumption.
This year's summit, held under the theme โReimagining Communication in East Africa,โ has brought together communication practitioners, business leaders, policymakers, academics and emerging professionals to explore the evolving role of communication in organisational leadership and regional development.

The @InfoKfcb has intensified consumer awareness campaigns targeting parents, guardians, caregivers and minors during the ongoing long school holidays, with a focus on promoting child online and offline safety. The campaigns seek to equip parents and caregivers with the knowledge and skills to guide and protect children from exposure to harmful and age-inappropriate content, while empowering minors to make informed and responsible choices when accessing and consuming audiovisual content.
As part of these efforts, KFCB on Monday, 2 November 2026, engaged and sensitised caregivers at SOS Children's Villages Kenya (Mombasa) on digital parenting and child online safety. The session, conducted under the Boardโs Consumer Advisory function through the Parents Digital Literacy (PaDiL) Programme, equipped participants with practical skills to enforce parental controls, manage screen time and apply safeguards to protect children from harmful audiovisual content and other media-related risks.
With learners spending more time at home during the holidays, KFCB reiterates that safeguarding children from harmful content, both online and offline, is a shared responsibility. The Board urges parents and caregivers to actively monitor the audiovisual content children access and consume, guide their online interactions and take an interest in their offline activities to minimise exposure to harmful influences and practices.
Through the PaDiL Programme, KFCB continues to advance digital parenting by working with other Government agencies and partners to equip parents, guardians and caregivers with the knowledge and skills to guide children's media consumption, promote responsible use of digital platforms and safeguard children from harmful content and online risks.

The @InfoKfcb (KFCB), in partnership with Tunga Media Afrika (@TungaAfrika), conducted a joint consumer awareness campaign for students at Mkwajuni Vocational Training Centre in Kilifi County, on the sidelines of the Kilifi Creek Festival (@kilificreekfest).
The interactive session, held on Friday 30 October 2026, featured screenings of locally produced films classified and approved by the Board for public exhibition. During the forum, KFCB officers highlighted the Boardโs regulatory mandate, emphasising the importance of responsible audiovisual content creation and consumption.
The team also outlined the Boardโs consumer advisory role through initiatives such as the Parents Digital Literacy (PaDiL) Programme, which equips parents, guardians and caregivers with the knowledge and skills to guide children in the safe and responsible use of digital platforms, monitor their online and offline activities and protect them from exposure to age-inappropriate content.
This is particularly important during the long school holidays, when learners spend more time at home and may have increased access to digital platforms and audiovisual content.
The officers reaffirmed the Boardโs commitment to promoting child online safety through content classification and related interventions implemented in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. @NellyMuluka @fikirini_jacobs @SDY_Ke @BosireWyclife @wambeti_munyi @lawrencekitema @KilifiCountyGov
