This is the moment we built Protocol Wealth for.
When we started the firm, we saw a clear gap.
People who had built significant wealth in Bitcoin, protocol tokens and other digital assets deserved professional financial advice. They needed sophisticated wealth management, thoughtful custody structures and advisers who understood both traditional finance and the onchain world.
That combination was difficult to find.
Then the bear market arrived. Protocol tokens fell sharply. Even major digital assets experienced significant declines. Planning felt less urgent.
But every market cycle tends to produce the same lesson:
During the bull market, people assume it will continue.
During the bear market, they wish they had made a plan while prices were higher.
Now, market activity is returning - but this moment is bigger than another crypto cycle.
Stablecoins are becoming more widely used for payments and yield. More traditional assets are being tokenized. A greater share of personal wealth will be represented on blockchains and potentially used within DeFi.
Investors will still need help answering familiar questions:
• How much risk am I taking?
• How concentrated am I?
• What should I sell, retain or diversify?
• How does this wealth support my family and long-term goals?
But they will also face newer questions:
• How should these assets be custodied?
• Which wallets, platforms and smart contracts are appropriate?
• How do I evaluate on-chain opportunities and their risks?
• How do I move safely between traditional and on-chain financial systems?
That is what we have been preparing for.
We’ve combined decades of traditional financial experience with deep knowledge of crypto, DeFi, wallets, custody and security. We’ve built the technology, reporting and operating systems needed to advise clients across both worlds.
AI is becoming part of that evolution as well - not as a replacement for judgment, but as a tool to operate more efficiently and do more for clients while protecting their information.
For @JasonLeupold, @nickryg and me, this is the convergence we anticipated when we started @Protocol_Wealth.
And it feels like the work is just beginning.
I’m heading to New York City this week for the @bloccelerate Founder Summit.
I’m looking forward to the conversations around AI, crypto and the next economy - but I’m also setting aside time to meet with people working through a more immediate issue: token compensation.
More founders and employees are receiving a meaningful portion of their wealth in tokens. That creates planning questions that don’t fit neatly into either traditional equity compensation or ordinary crypto investing:
How should you plan around an unlock or vesting schedule?
Where will the liquidity come from when you want or need to sell?
How much should you reserve for taxes?
How should you handle custody, concentration and family cash-flow needs?
And how do you execute the plan without having to manage every detail yourself?
If you receive token compensation-or work in People, Finance or Legal at a company that offers it-I’d enjoy comparing notes while I’m in New York.
Send me a message if you’d like to find time this week.

Today’s Binance incident is an important reminder:
Custody risk is not just private-key risk.
According to Binance’s preliminary update, the incident may have involved a compromised DevOps employee’s laptop, access to a service container and unauthorized withdrawal transactions.
Binance says it has found no evidence that wallet private keys were leaked.
The investigation is still underway, so it is important not to get ahead of the facts. But the initial details illustrate how many different layers are involved in protecting digital assets:
• Private keys
• Devices and employee endpoints
• User and administrator permissions
• Withdrawal authorizations
• Transaction limits and approval policies
• Monitoring and emergency response
• Provider infrastructure
• Recovery and continuity planning
The answer is not automatically “move everything to a hardware wallet.”
It is also not automatically “leave everything with one exchange or custodian.”
Every custody model addresses certain risks while introducing others.
Depending on the holder’s circumstances, a custody architecture may include qualified custody, policy-controlled MPC wallets, limited exchange balances for trading and a documented recovery and succession plan.
The important questions are:
Who can move the assets?
Under what conditions?
What approvals are required?
What happens if a device, provider or individual is compromised or unavailable?
And can the family recover the assets if the primary holder cannot act?
We should wait for Binance’s full post-mortem before drawing conclusions about this specific incident.
But you do not need to wait to review your own controls.
Crypto custody is not a destination.
It is an operating system.

I’ll be in NYC next week for the @bloccelerate Founder Summit and meetings with crypto companies about employee token compensation.
If you’re a founder, People/finance leader or employee managing a meaningful token allocation, I have a few openings.
DM me if you’d like to meet.
A Friday question:
If you couldn’t access your crypto on Monday, would your family know what to do?
Not your seed phrase - just where assets are held, whom to call, how recovery begins and where instructions live.
A custody plan isn’t complete if it only works when you’re available.
If you receive part of your compensation in tokens, and want to see where you stand:

Choosing a wallet tells you where your tokens land.
It doesn’t tell you who can trade, withdraw, change permissions, recover access or take over if you can’t act.
That’s why custody isn’t a destination.
It’s an operating system.
If you receive part of your compensation in tokens, and want to see where your readiness stands:

I have new hope.
Met with a young investor who has done very well in crypto.
After growing wealth through some memecoins and NFTs, he used his knowledge and understanding of crypto to come up with an investment thesis for this cycle.
He has moved into only a few assets that fit his thesis, and has targets to the upside, and values to the downside that invalidate the thesis.
He is also showing maturity in asking for guidance from financial professionals.
- Budgeting
- Cash flow
- Custody
- Tax planning
- Diversification
Great to see someone taking wealth they made on their own, and realize they don't need to risk it all over and over at this point.
Also great to know there are finally investment theses beyond hopium.
More investors like this.

Why would an SEC-registered investment adviser join the @tacoalition?
We don’t issue tokens. We don’t tokenize funds or other assets.
We joined because financial advisers may become one of the most important markets for tokenized investments—and the infrastructure needs to work for fiduciaries before that can happen.
Investment advisers reported approximately $177 trillion in regulatory assets under management in 2025.
If a meaningful portion of the investment world moves onchain, advisers will not simply be watching from the sidelines. We will be responsible for:
• Evaluating the underlying investments
• Understanding how the tokens are structured
• Determining whether they belong in client portfolios
• Solving for custody, reporting and tax data
• Explaining the risks to clients
• Monitoring the investments as fiduciaries
Earlier this year, I wrote an article with the Tokenized Asset Coalition explaining why tokenized assets were not yet ready for meaningful allocation by RIAs.
Since then, we have seen regulatory progress, more assets come onchain and greater real-world use of stablecoins. But there is still plenty to build.
We are also hearing directly from clients who already hold significant wealth onchain. They do not necessarily want to move everything back to a traditional brokerage account simply to access traditional investments.
They want onchain portfolios that can include both crypto assets and appropriately structured real-world investments.
Protocol Wealth joined the Tokenized Asset Coalition to represent that perspective.
We’re joining a strong cohort that includes Ascend, Control, @cryptio_co , the Digital Securities Initiative, the @EntEthAlliance, @eulerfinance, Lava, @OpenZeppelin, Overmatch Capital, @reserveprotocol and @trize_io.
Tokenization will not reach its potential simply because an asset can be placed onchain.
It will reach its potential when investors and their advisers can responsibly use it.
We’re excited to help build that future.

Honored to be a part of the @TACoalition, and alongside such important companies in this space.
The next TRILLION won't come onchain by accident. It will take consolidated efforts from all parts of the financial system to bring the assets into the more efficient networks, and later find new opportunities for capital and investors.
Let's go 🚀
Very excited to announce we're welcoming 12 new members.
Another step toward our mission of onboarding the next TRILLION of assets onchain.
With the SEC opening the door to tokenized stock trading onchain:
- We've added a regulated broker-dealer building lending against tokenized NMS stock
- We're deepening our DeFi bench with leading lending protocols and onchain asset managers
- We've brought on the infrastructure tokenization runs on: smart contract security, onchain accounting, blockchain data and self-custody
- We've expanded into Canton, an ecosystem institutions are adopting quickly
- We're strengthening our research and policy work with two of the most respected standards and policy groups in the space
Meet the new TAC members:

We also unveiled the Global Access Protocol (GAP) today, a framework for making tokenized securities composable in DeFi. More on this next week.
Thank you to our returning members, alums and partners for continuing to build this with us!

Self-custody does not mean “no custody risk.”
It means you have chosen to manage that risk yourself.
The recent issues involving tampered hardware wallets are a reminder that moving assets off an exchange does not make every risk disappear. It changes the risks you need to manage.
