Passed my Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist certification exam. Awarded a $5,000 scholarship. And today is day one of my MSW program at USC — the next step toward my LCSW. One more credential, one seat closer to the table. Still focused. Still moving. #Veterans #PTSD

I’ve spent the last few months writing hard truths about systems that fall short. Today I want to talk about the people who don’t. Veterans cutting hair for veterans living on the street. Peer specialists sitting with someone at 2 a.m. when no one else will. VSO reps carrying impossible caseloads and staying late anyway. Clinicians who never wore the uniform, studying our culture on their own time because they refuse to fail us for lack of trying. None of them appear in a report. Most will never be publicly thanked. They just keep showing up — for us. That quiet, steady work is the reason any of this is still worth fighting for. We don’t fight for institutions. We fight for people — the ones already inside the system and the ones still waiting outside it. But love for the people does not mean we stop demanding better from the systems meant to serve them. Accountability and care are not opposites. They are the same fight. To every veteran still standing in the gap for someone else inside imperfect systems: I see you. Thank you. Keep going. The systems can be fixed. The people are already proving why they must be. We were never promised the fight would be fair. Only that we would not do it alone. De Oppresso Liber. Free the oppressed — by serving people, not institutions. #Veterans #VeteranSupport #PeerSupport #InvictusVeteran #BrothersAndSisters #DeOppressoLiber

For all my brothers and sisters who swore that oath, who have sat in that parking lot wondering if they can trust the one organization meant to serve them. You are not forgotten, and our integrity is non-negotiable. Hold the line! #Veterans #PTSD

Veterans at the Therapy Table is about our lack of representation in the mental health community, and what it costs veterans seeking care. On August 14th, the next piece takes on accountability — whether the VA can be trusted to measure its own performance and correct its own failures. De Oppresso Liber! (#Veterans #PTSD)

The VA employs more than 480,000 people. Only 25% are veterans — a lower share than the Air Force, the Army, even the Department of Transportation. The agency built exclusively for veterans trails its own federal ecosystem on veteran hiring. And nowhere does that cost more than in mental health care, where trust is a measurable clinical variable — and where only 9.1% of veterans with PTSD complete evidence-based treatment. Here’s what makes it more than an opinion: the profession already wrote the standard. NASW named veteran cultural competence as a professional obligation. CSWE accredits to it. Their own research says few civilian providers meet it — for the one population an entire federal health system exists to serve. This piece is about who is waiting on the other side of the door. The fix already exists inside the VA’s own walls. What’s missing is the will to point it at the problem. If you’re a veteran who has ever thought about entering this field: the system wasn’t designed for you. Go through it anyway. #Veterans #MentalHealth #PTSD

They built us into warriors. Then they sent us home to systems that have no place for men and women who refuse to break their oath! My name is Ren Ross. 19th Special Forces Group. Over nine years in Special Operations as a SOT-A and SOT-B Team Leader. Multiple deployments. A 100% service-connected veteran from my time in service. Coined by a 4-Star General in Taji, Iraq — though the recognition was never the point. The point is what so many of us found when we came home. The systems built to serve veterans are run almost entirely by people who never wore the uniform. The veteran voice — the one that actually knows — too often isn't in the room where the decisions get made. That's the gap I've lived in since 2015. 800+ supportive housing units. A Master's in criminology focused on veterans and moral injury. A peer support certification. An MSW at USC starting this fall. Not for the letters. Because someone who has stood where our brothers and sisters stood has to be at that table. That's why Invictus answers to the mission and nothing else — no relationship, no funding stream dictates what we're willing to say! Independence means I can say plainly what others won't. In my hardest moments, my faith in Jesus Christ carried me. It's the reason I still serve. No one gets left behind. And I don't fight alone. My family stands with me — Rosy, a warrior queen beside the work, and our two precious daughters. Our faith strengthens the mission every day. The oath we swore never ends! The oath we swore to this country never ends! We didn't raise our right hand for a season. We raised it for life, and we honor our oath. That commitment didn't expire at separation — and neither did our responsibility to our brothers and sisters still fighting battles no one sees. But the systems built to serve our nation's heroes do not honor that oath. Veterans are being locked out of life insurance because they sought mental health treatment. They're coming home to housing instability, workforce barriers, and bureaucracies that were never designed with them in mind. The institutions that claim to serve us are failing us — not from malice, but from a system that was never built to reflect the warrior ethos we live. Invictus Veteran Solutions LLC exists to change that. We are an SDVOSB and California DVBE founded by a Special Operations combat veteran. We answer to the mission — and we refuse to let any relationship dictate what we're willing to say. We work in veteran supportive housing, workforce development, construction, facilities management, and government contracting. We advocate without apology! This account exists for one purpose: to carry the mission further. We will push veteran advocacy, amplify real solutions, pursue partnerships that put veterans to work, and say plainly what others won't. Follow along. Share what matters. Hold the line.
