With Thanksgiving approaching, we want to spend the month of November giving thanks for all the pollinator conservation work our partners are doing! Join us this month as we highlight the various conservation projects our partners have carried out over this past year!
How can you tell the difference between a male and a female monarch? One easy way is to look for black dots on the lower edge of their wing. Males have a pair of black dots that females lack, making it easy to tell the difference between the two!
As part of our pollinator workshops, we partnered with Iowa Learning Farms (ILF) to interview landowners about monarch conservation. ILF has since put together a report on how supporting monarchs can advance pollinator conservation across the state!

Do summer monarchs migrate? Fall monarchs migrate south; what about summer monarchs? New research has examined summer monarchs’ responses to magnetic cues and warming temperatures to determine whether they follow a strict northern migration pattern.

Our final #NativeFlowerFriday of the year celebrates Calico Aster! One of the last fall blooming species, this plant helps pollinators prepare for winter. Growing well in both sun and shade, it's also a versatile plant for your garden!

Goldenrod is one of the monarch’s favorite fall blooming plants! Since it’s one of the last blooming plants of the season, it is a key nectar resource during the fall migration. #NativeFlowerFriday
