Modern security for industrial infrastructure.

What's holding back our ability to prevent attacks on factories, utilities and the machines we depend on? Lack of capital? Lack of awareness? Technology that isn't there yet? I asked @IronLoop_io's Josh Ross on RED HOT. His answer starts with a Charlie Munger line. Full episode: youtube.com/watch?v=AU2bKLU6…

The best part of the first RED HOT in my opinion is the last question. Why build something that matters, not just something that makes money? Josh Ross of @IronLoop_io starts with his parents and ends with a problem too few engineers are working on… youtube.com/watch?v=AU2bKLU6…

Red Hot, red seat. Every founder gets 22 questions: 10 deep, 10 rapid-fire, and 2 they get to ask us. First in the seat: Josh Ross of @IronLoop_io. youtube.com/watch?v=AU2bKLU6…
New RED HOT with Josh Ross, founder and CEO of @IronLoop_io! Josh worked on core infrastructure and security at Applied Intuition, then left to start Ironloop, a next-gen OT cybersecurity company for the industrial systems the physical world runs on. Ironloop is @RedGlassVC's first investment. We talked about why OT and IT security are different, what Stuxnet proved, how AI changes who can attack factories and utilities, and why security should be an enabler, not a cost center. Then Josh flips the script and asks me a few questions, and a rapid-fire round closes it out. Freezers at dozens of supermarkets in Sweden and Belgium have suddenly overheated, ruining food worth millions of euros just weeks after French retailers were targeted in a cyber attack. ft.trib.al/qFnEaVd

AI is moving into cyber-physical systems faster than most OT teams can secure it. A single misconfiguration can take down infrastructure a population depends on. #SANSCDI’s #ICS #OT training is built around exactly that exposure. go.sans.org/usHyyV

Replying to @cyantist
It’s not just internet connected devices. Air-gapped environments are also at risk.

The Pentagon is treating a rash of freezer malfunctions that affected refrigeration and freezer units at commissaries at several U.S. military bases in August as a suspected cyberattack, according to four officials familiar with the matter who spoke to Reuters. The Pentagon said a Cyber Command unit is “working in close coordination with interagency and law enforcement partners” in the ongoing investigation. At least six on base commissaries were affected in late August, per Reuters’ review of base social media posts. In at least one case, the cooling units’ temperatures were raised overnight, resulting in spoiled food. Fort Huachuca, Arizona, posted that its freezer “went into defrost mode where it heated up all the food.” One official said investigators have been in touch with French counterparts about a similar attack that hit more than 350 French supermarkets earlier this month. I shared last week that French supermarkets were hacked and their refrigerators shut down. Now Pentagon is reporting similar attacks on on US military bases. @IronLoop_io can’t grow fast enough…
