Didn’t show up for a studio session he had already agreed to, wasted Jay’s time, and then went on to sneak-diss him on The Message
But people will still tell you Jay Z started the beef because Nas looks quiet😒
Y’all can acknowledge Nas is a great MC without rewriting history to make Jay the villain in every situation😭

Problem was absolutely correct about the rest of the industry following the top guy. And that’s Kendrick. Prime example 👇🏽 He knows the rules have changed.

Rick Rubin explains why he wanted to do his docuseries on JAY-Z. He says people tend to think of Jay as a brilliant billionaire businessman who’s married to a famous singer, but the reason he’s famous in the 1st place is because of the music. 💯
Rick says he asked Jay to do the docuseries, but Jay told him he would think about it. Then a whole year & a half went by because Rick didn’t want to ask again.
“If you don’t ask him, it won’t happen. He can only say yes or no”.

Re, deleted: You are actually proving my point. We are not talking about a #1 song that went viral for a week and disappeared. We are talking about a song that has spent TWENTY+ weeks at #1 and broken major records in the 68-year history of the Billboard Hot 100.
We literally just watched “Not Like Us” break through carefully curated algorithms and demographics. Babies knew that song. Teenagers knew it. Young adults knew it. Parents knew it. Grandparents people knew it. People who probably had never intentionally searched for a Kendrick Lamar song in their lives knew it. It crossed racial demographics, age groups, countries, sports, commercials, award shows, clubs, cookouts and eventually the Super Bowl. Yet it only spent three nonconsecutive weeks at #1.
So yes, media consumption is more personalized now, but that does not explain away the issue. A truly dominant record can still break through an algorithm. We LITERALLY just watched one do it.
If a song can sit at #1 for 20+ weeks while huge portions of the public sincerely say they have never heard it, then chart dominance clearly does not represent cultural dominance the way it once did.
Saying “your algorithm just didn’t show it to you” is not a rebuttal. That is literally the problem I am pointing out!
