When I started getting healthy ~5 years ago, I wasn’t trying to be a bodybuilder. I just wanted to lose weight and feel… normal. I was tired of being the fat guy my whole life. My Type 1 diabetes was out of control and wiping me out physically, mentally, and emotionally. Then one day I decided to change for good. The old Mike was done. Somewhere along the way, I fell in love with the process of training and nutrition. It became part of who I am. What started as white knuckle willpower turned into ironclad discipline. In the process, I got my T1D under control. Consistent sub-5% A1Cs. No more rollercoaster blood sugars. No more debilitating hypoglycemic seizures... People think T1D makes this impossible. It doesn’t. If anything, it forces you to be more precise, more consistent, more accountable. T1Ds with grit make great bodybuilders. We’re already students of our own metabolism. We understand how insulin, food, and training all interact and we live it every day. Can't wait to take the stage again this year and show how I've grown as a competitor, as a T1D, and as a person. #type1diabetes #t1d #npc #bodybuilding #fitnessjourney #contestprep

Bulk is over, and I’m about a month into the cut. Down roughly 15 lbs while averaging about 3,100 calories per day. Yesterday’s InBody estimated me at 12.3% body fat. The goal is around 9%, with 259–260 lbs as a checkpoint rather than a hard finish line. I’ll reassess based on how I look. As I get leaner, I’m aiming to slow the loss to around 1 to 1.5 lbs per week. I’ll also shift some protein calories toward fat while keeping carbs up to support training. Once I’m happy with my condition, I’ll bring calories up to maintenance through the holidays, then begin a dedicated prep based on the spring show I choose.

Absolutely chilling audio
“We’re out of time.” Those may be some of the last words heard from the cockpit of the private jet that plunged into a Florida neighborhood Sunday. Audio circulating online appears to capture the pilots of the Learjet 60 talking with air traffic control before the crash in Greenacres, Palm Beach County. The FAA says nine people were on board, flying from Austin, Texas, to the Bahamas. Instead of a vacation, the jet dropped from cruising altitude almost straight down and exploded into a mobile home park just before 1 p.m. Reports say none of the nine survived. Nine families woke up expecting a trip to paradise, and tonight they’re getting the worst call of their lives. The NTSB is now trying to figure out what went so wrong, so fast. What do you think could cause a jet to fall out of the sky that quickly?

I use a LOT of electrolytes with my training. To save money, I make my own. Very easy to do! Mix the following in a blender: 250 g salt (I use iodized for the extra iodine) 40 g magnesium malate 40 g potassium chloride (I get everything from Amazon, usually Nutricost or BulkSupplements) Store the batch in an airtight container and measure out individual servings as needed. Based on the ingredient prices I paid, mine costs about 3.5 cents per serving compared with $1.13 to $1.50 for popular branded products. That’s roughly 97-98% cheaper! If I want flavor, I’ll add a squirt of MiO or a packet of Crystal Light.

November 1st 2026 A1c: 4.3% 😱 Also posted my 7, 14, 30, and 90 day reports for good measure. My goal is to always strive for 0% hypos but sometimes they are unavoidable. Room for improvement! Will be celebrating my 29th year with #t1d in 10 days. I have come a long way since being a terrified newly diagnosed 14 year old who was living on rollercoaster blood sugars. Hope everyone had a safe a fun Halloween, I plan on celebrating with a brutal leg day at the gym shortly and burning off all those KitKat bars 💪 😉

For those freaking out about the upcoming CVS Caremark/Aetna Dexcom coverage changes: check your medical/DME benefits before assuming you’re losing access. Losing pharmacy coverage doesn’t mean losing coverage altogether. You may still be able to get Dexcom through your medical benefit using a durable medical equipment (DME) supplier. Call your insurer and ask if Dexcom be covered under your 2027 medical/DME benefit, and which in-network suppliers you can use. Personally I have loved working with USMED after using several other DME vendors. You can apply with them directly and they will do all the legwork for you to get you what you need. usmed.com/ #t1d

If you look closely enough, breakthroughs in everything are accelerating exponentially. An exponential always starts off looking small.
this might be my last normal tweet before biotech goes vertical i'm not a whistleblower. I don't work at Lilly, Novo or any of the big labs but there is a massive shift happening in human biology right now. it's sitting in press releases and almost nobody reads them the last 6 months alone: - a once-daily pill roughly doubled median survival in metastatic pancreatic cancer (13.2 vs 6.6 months) - a one-time gene editing infusion cut hereditary angioedema attacks 87%, and 62% of patients stayed attack-free and off all other prevention for 6 months - a one-time gene edit for cholesterol dropped LDL up to 62%, and it held for over a year - a personalized mrna vaccine beat keytruda alone in a 1,137 patient melanoma phase 3 - retatrutide hit ~28% weight loss in a phase 3 - an ai-designed drug entered phase 3 - a pill that regrows hair passed its second phase 3 - an immunotherapy that could let some rectal cancer patients skip surgery, chemo and radiation just got fda approved - a man lived 271 days off dialysis on a pig kidney - human cells were caught passing chromosome-sized chunks of DNA to their neighbors, and it changes how the neighbors behave we are on the verge of an era where the human body is a software problem and the update cycle gets shorter everyday stick around, it's going to get weird bio/acc

My biggest advice to parents is to remember that T1D is something your child has, not who they are. Don't let diabetes define their childhood or limit what they believe they can accomplish. Main thing is to give them a locus of control. Teach them that they have the power to manage their disease and make changes. Empower the kids through education and experience. Discourage 'powerlessness' if that makes sense. A few things I'd emphasize: 1. Educate yourself. Learn how insulin, food, exercise, and other factors affect blood glucose. Bec9me full time students of managing the disease. This learning will never end. More knowledge leads to more confidence and better outcomes 2. Embrace technology. CGMs and automated insulin delivery systems are incredible tools. Use whatever you can you help get better control. I went 20 years with T1D without using a pump because I didnt want anything attached to me and after starting I realized how foolish it was since I got such amazing results right away. 3. Don't fear carbohydrates. Carbs aren't the enemy. Teach kids how to manage insulin around food rather than developing a fear of certain foods or creating unnecessary dietary restrictions. This ties back to #1. By carbs i mean things like fruit, oats/grains, potatoes, vegetables (whole foods) and not junk with low satiety per calorie (although occasional treats are perfectly fine too) 4. Exercise and sports. Get the kids moving as much as possible. Will help immensely with body composition, mental health, blood sugar control, etc. 5. Get involved in the T1D community. Connect with other families, attend events, and especially look into diabetes camps. Being around other kids with T1D can be incredibly empowering and helps children realize they're not alone. 6. Learn how to adjust and iterate. If someone has a shitty day or week of blood sugar control, learn why that happened and make adjustments. Just like any good engineer doing root cause analysis 😁
What strategies do you recommend for really young kids with T1D?

Great pic of me and some fellow #T1Ds at the @BreakthroughT1D event this past weekend! The woman in purple has been living with T1D for almost 60 years, while the younger guy on my far left was diagnosed within the past year along with his father in the middle. Just a month or two ago, he underwent an experimental treatment using donated islet cells in California. On the far right is keynote speaker Dr. Brynn Marks, MD, MSHPEd, Senior Director of Medical Affairs. I had the chance to ask her a few questions about upcoming therapies for T1D, and she was an absolute pleasure to speak with! 💙

FOUR YEARS AGO TODAY: Elon Musk walked into Twitter headquarters carrying a bathroom sink and delivered a message that would become one of the most memorable moments in social media history. “Let that sink in.” Just one day later, Musk officially took control of Twitter in a $44 billion deal, setting off a political and cultural shakeup that transformed the platform into X and reignited the national battle over free speech, censorship and Big Tech’s influence in politics. Pretty amazing advancement in #T1D and CGM tech 😍
This is exciting! The next implantable CGM will require ZERO equipment on the outside of your body. This will be the FREEDOM CGM from Senseonics, Incorporated. I’m a big fan of the Eversense CGM, and I actually really appreciate the external transmitter…because it vibrates! Learn more about the future of implantable CGM technology in my interview with execs from Senseonics! Tune in to the Diabetes Nerd Podcast. At the @BreakthroughT1D summit this morning. Lots of cool #T1D vendors and people touched by the disease here! Tough seeing so many kids with the disease, but it's good to show we are one community that has each other's backs 💙
