Mojang saw people playing a stable version of Minecraft on console and decided to remove it instantly. Compare how fast they removed this to how slow they are with removing bugs. It proves the option to play legacy is there, but mojang simply don’t want you to

LEGACY IS ALREADY GONE
Mojang have remotely disabled the Editions setting for ALL copies of Minecraft, including ones that already had the button in the main menu.
This means Legacy is no longer accessible. If you have Minecraft open, DO NOT CLOSE IT OR GO TO BEDROCK.
