Looks like someone has a Saildrone Explorer (~23 ft / 7 m) operating north of Cape Canaveral. These are used for meteocean data, hurricane intercepts & similar long-endurance missions. This particular one did a 6-month mission in the Pacific in 2019. 👍🌀 pmel.noaa.gov/ocs/ocs-saildr…

FORTE / Ship 40 Update 🚀⛴️🌎 Heavy lift vessel Forte & Ship 40 making steady 14-14.3 knots. Brownsville Texas in ~16 days. S40 floated for 33 days after splashdown. Then 7,219 nm after S40 was loaded onto Forte’s deck at Christmas Island on Aug 28. Only 5,648 nm to go! 🏁

Great video! Before SpaceX started running fairing fishers Doug & Bob to recover the $3 million fairing halves in 2021, they had fairing CATCHERS Ms. Tree and Ms. Chief. We still miss those rather awkward looking, but very capable vessels here on the Space Coast. 🤩🚀⛴️

Armada 86 03 is a new (2025) autonomous-capable, high tech OSV that’s 86 meters long. Lots of bells and whistles: AUV / ROV support, two moon pools and the whole nine yards. Note: Can be entirely remotely controlled from Ocean Infinity’s facility in Austin, Texas. 👀

On Saturday, Hot Spot Fishing Charters, a Pensacola-based charter fishing company found and recovered a large distinctive delta-wing unmanned aerial vehicle in the Gulf of America, several miles off the western coast of Florida. The UAV, found by the charter group during a six-hour fishing tour, shares a striking resemblance with the Iranian Shahed-136, but is likely either a Low-cost Uncrewed Combat Attack System (LUCAS) or a Griffon Aerospace MQM-172 Arrowhead, both of which are American-built and designed copies of the Shahed. So far the U.S. Air Force and nearby Eglin Air Force Base have declined to comment on the discovery, with Hot Shot Charters stating that authorities arrived later in the day to retrieve the drone.
