On World Refugee Day, while the world observes and honors refugees, refugees in Tunisia find themselves in a state of distress and displacement.
Today, their situation turned painful as the Tunisian National Guard reportedly burned down their tents, leaving them with nowhere to go. Once again, they have been left homeless, exposed, and in urgent need of protection.
In response, the refugees have issued an urgent call to the international community, humanitarian organizations, and human rights defenders to hear their plea.
They stress that seeking refuge is not a choice but a condition forced by war, persecution, and the struggle to survive. Being a migrant or a refugee is not a crime—it is a human condition shaped by hardship.
Their demand is simple: dignity, safety, and the right to live.

On the case of #Almasri, we held a press conference at @Montecitorio to express our disappointment and to present a number of demands to the Italian government:
1. The immediate termination of all agreements between Italy and Libya that enable the abuse of migrants.
2. A public commitment to demand the release of all those still imprisoned in Mitiga and other detention centers across Libya.
3. An official explanation of why Almasri, whom your own government called dangerous, was released instead of being handed over to the ICC.
4. A legal pathway for migrants trapped in Libya’s detention centers, including the reopening of the Italian embassy in Tripoli to process humanitarian visas.
