Now that these rigged maps have spectacularly backfired, can we all get on board with banning partisan gerrymandering now?

Good Prop 40 thread
My view on the California wealth tax proposal is probably more nuanced than some of my followers may want it to be. Prop 40, as designed, has both strong pros and strong cons. My main complaint is that the scientific debate around it has been polluted by political prejudices. 🧵

Loooooooove
Per the listing this is a “truly one-of-a-kind opportunity to own your own castle in Cleveland” Yes.

Feels pretty spot on. Is one better tho?
Main difference that I saw during my 5 years in SD and my 1 year in SF is: - in SD I had incredible 5-year friendships in which I had 0 clue what they do in their careers - in SF the first thing I learn about people is what they're building and how big their seed round was

Welcome to California where instead of producing more power to meet demand during heatwaves, the nation’s dumbest state just turns the power off while charging the highest electricity rates in the country
San Diego Gas & Electric is starting to implement Public Safety Power Shutoffs today, with around 35,000 customers at risk of shutoffs over the next few days.

Move the Chargers back to San Diego. Or to Mexico City or something. They're kind of a liminal franchise at this point, the equivalent of an auxiliary airport terminal.

Bougainvillea - typically a vine but this set trimmed into a small tree form. Amazing color.

Here for the LA Haterade
USC might be the perfect representation of LA: some of the worst beaches and surf in California, plus the state’s #1 “Beach Bummer” at Santa Monica Pier, yet somehow they still look down on everyone else. Meanwhile, go north or south and you’ve got Santa Barbara, SLO, Big Sur, Santa Cruz, Huntington, Newport, Laguna, San Clemente and San Diego. And while people project an image of being good because they drive a Prius or Tesla, Pete Carroll was actually out in LA’s toughest neighborhoods helping people and feeding the homeless because he genuinely cared. That’s what being a good person looks like.

If this were universally legal and frictionless to build in California, I believe the state's population would be like 60 million lol. The state has absurd advantages it nearly completely wastes.
BEVERLY HILLS SAYS IT DOESN’T FIT. STATE LAW SAYS BUILD IT ANYWAY. A vacant lot is set to become a 26-story, 310-foot tower with 200 homes, 22 affordable units and a rooftop pool. The Builder’s Remedy strikes again and the revised design looks incredible! Details by @UrbanizeLA 👇

Year 1: Endowment style ETF 22.6% @CalPERS 14.8% @CalSTRS 13.9%
If you're on the board of a foundation or endowment, you now have a dilemma. There exists an endowment stlye ETF, with all in fees less than 0.25%. When you bring this up during the board meeting, a simple question will be raised. "If we can't beat this low cost ETF, what are we even doing?" Your current structure: Massive fees and compensation, and an incredibly complicated process. Hundreds of pages of portfolio reports, dozens or hundreds of employees that cost who knows what. You now have a major liability. How do you justify that decision over a simple ETF?
