The plan calls for $5 trillion in individual tax hikes, another $5 trillion in corporate tax hikes on businesses large and small, a corporate tax rate that would be the highest in the developed world, and even more taxes on capital gains, dividends, guns, alcohol, tobacco, and gambling. Apparently, if you enjoy something, own something, invest in something, or run a business, Democrats demand a cut.
What’s missing? Cutting the $3 trillion in cumulative waste, fraud and abuse the GAO has identified since 2003. But why fix the leak when you can send taxpayers a $15T water bill?
Also missing: any meaningful macroeconomic analysis of the damage these tax hikes could inflict on jobs, wages, families, small businesses, investors, private investment, business growth, and the overall U.S. economy.
