Far right populists in Alberta have given up on winning elections. If they can't compete, they have decided to cheat.
They are gerrymandering maps and trying to break up the federation instead of doing the hard work of building broad and durable coalitions.
Lazy losers.

For immediate release:
"For months, the Alberta NDP Caucus has been warning against UCP attempts to violate the democratic rights of Albertans and bring in election maps only meant to deliver a win for the UCP in the next election no matter what voters want.
"Elections Alberta warned Danielle Smith months ago that they need 12 to 18 months to implement new maps under perfect conditions. Instead, the UCP repeatedly changed the law to help themselves, denied Elections Alberta the resources it requested, and put all Albertans through a wasteful and incredibly costly referendum. Now Elections Alberta says they just don’t have enough time to implement the UCP’s rigged map in time for the October 27 fixed election date — a date already extended by Danielle Smith to give herself six more months in power.
"Danielle Smith and the UCP should have implemented the independent commission’s report six months ago and they could still do it now. Albertans deserve to vote in free, fair and timely elections. The UCP should stop cheating and do the right thing."

We’ve been demanding a public inquiry for over a year. Danielle Smith and the UCP keep refusing. Why? What are they afraid a public inquiry might uncover?

Greg MacEachern on Danielle Smith: "It's kind of shameful how expensive it was in order for her to run a referendum to decide whether or not she has the power and strength to say to separatists, 'Get out of my party.'"

Albertans are dying because they can't get timely care in emergency rooms.
And how has Danielle Smith responded? She's done nothing but waste all of our time and $200 million on a separation referendum we all knew would fail.
Albertans deserve a government that will make life better for them.

Nenshi has lambasted Smith for not following through on her promise to actively campaign for a united Canada. Last week, Nenshi noted that not only are Smith’s cabinet members not getting out the vote, many have left on foreign trips during the critical lead-up to the vote.
“They should bloody be knocking on doors. They should be getting out the vote,” Nenshi said. “They’re behaving like separatists.”

Danielle, your own staff failed to disclose to the authorities that the personal information of nearly 3 million Albertans was being illegally shared, including the former premier's home address. You did nothing. We notified the RCMP immediately.
You laughed it off repeatedly for months and did nothing to protect people.
Now you say that you acted immediately? What a joke. You acted like you always do, only when you think it helps you.
Now you're attempting to spin this to suppress get-out-the-vote efforts, making it easier for your separatist friends in this referendum.
You continue to put Albertans at risk for the sake of your own political career.
Albertans' personal voter information was allegedly disclosed without authorization by the Alberta Republican Party. The Chief Electoral Officer called publicly for stronger safeguards, and our government acted immediately to suspend distribution of the voters list while the investigations run their course.
Shockingly, the Alberta NDP went to court to stop us and keep things as they were. Yesterday, the court ruled against them.
This was a shameful display by the NDP. Protecting voter information should be a non-partisan issue and I’m glad that their application was rejected by the courts.

Just so we are clear, the UCP's approach to this is highly unusual. Fundamental changes to democratic institutions are not made on the fly in the middle of a campaign, nor without multi-party engagement (often consensus).
