Widespread state ownership and government control of the means of production and distribution is called ‘state capitalism’. Leftwing reforms meant to try to help the poor and deprived are just that — ‘reformism’ or ‘leftism’. State-funded roads, emergency services, health care etc are state intervention or ‘statism’. Only class-free, state-free, money-free direct collective societal ownership of the means of production and distribution is actual ‘socialism’ (also known as ‘communism’), as explained by Marx, Engels and others. American children aren’t taught the truth in schools, and American adults aren’t told the truth by politicians and the mainstream media, so there’s widespread confusion and all manner of absurd views and comments, such as these by @JDVance. As long as socialism or communism is repeatedly falsely defined as whatever exists under someone on the far left like Stalin, or the far right like Hitler, then people won’t want anything to do with it, which is obviously what the capitalist class wants. Only when people manage to learn the truth does a beneficial real economic change become possible. Until then, we’ll all keep going round in circles continuing to suffer all manner of problems and nonsense.

Blah blah blah. Learn some history. Lenin wanted state-controlled capitalism and he clearly said so. And that is exactly what came about in the Soviet Union and never ended until the Soviet Union collapsed.

The Soviet Union, China etc never had Marxist socialism/communism (same thing). They only ever had STATE CAPITALISM. Google it.
