A new chapter begins in Malawi! @MLW_Programme My PhD is a fusion of tropical medicine, global health, D&E and obstetric medicine. I've been quiet on here since our boy arrived in style - hoping to be more professionally active via @ObsMedAfrica (The PRONE Study) from now x

Recent influence of 🐦 on racist riots has tipped it. This account closing. So sad as previously such a great platform for keeping in touch with international obstetric medicine community. Join us on site with Link & In (riddles to dodge algs) for updates on The PRONE Study 🙏

Administering a pragmatic 50g glucose challenge test in The PRONE Study using a locally bottled soda drink. Always great to see the caring interaction between our research nurses and participants. 139 pregnant women now recruited 🎊 Ndirande Health Centre, Blantyre - Malawi 🇲🇼

Gestational #diabetes affects 1 in 7 pregnancies & is the most common medical pregnancy complication. In our latest issue, a Series calls for a shift to a holistic life-course approach in how we manage the disease. Find this & more: hubs.li/Q02GljGQ0

Every woman in The PRONE study has a fetal ultrasound scan at their first antenatal booking appointment by a trained midwife. Organising almost a thousand fetal ultrasound scans is not straightforward -with powercuts and stock-outs of basic consumables such as gel.Well done team!

Very proud of this photograph. It shows how well integrated our two PRONE team members are with the government staff at Ndirande Health Centre in Blantyre, Malawi.

Death by lateral flow. Thanks to Vincent our lab tech for capturing the concentration 😅 Not a lab project by any means, just catching up with a batch of serum samples from our first participants 👍 5ul is a very small volume, and prone to error, that’s what I learnt..

What the world will learn about NCDs in pregnancy in SSA depends on the care and precision with which these four women approach their work on a daily basis. Makes sense to look after them! The PRONE STUDY Team building on the high ropes at Gulugufe 🙌🇲🇼@MLW_Programme

Song and dance at the antenatal health education talk this morning. Every antenatal clinic starts this way in the morning 😁💃 One of the most deprived districts in one of the world’s poorest countries -but never far from wide smiles and warmth. Chikwawa Hospital S. Malawi 🇲🇼

Occasionally talks sense 👍
In moments when you need a bit of positivity, go on @LinkedIn, where people tend to share the good things happening in their lives and around the world. While @X is often a place of combat and negativity, LinkedIn is a generally happier place. There’s a time for both of course!

Maternal sepsis kills too many mothers - 17 a day die in Uganda from this. Maternal sepsis week (12-18 May) raises awareness of this devastating condition. The @apt_sepsis trial, involving 30 sites in Uganda and 30 in Malawi aims to bring positive change. #AtTheEquatorUG

Already, 29% of global births are in sub-Saharan Africa. The Lancet study projects that to rise to 54%. In other words, this is the African century, not the Asian one - and whether Africa gets rich or stays poor is THE question for human wellbeing.
