Is @BhamCityCouncil really ‘effectively’ bankrupt?

The warning signs have been there for years yet no one in power seems to have done anything about it.
We warned @bhamcitycouncil about this for years. They ignored us & Commissioner Max Caller slagged us off as “financially illiterate.” The result was £millions of unnecessary cuts to services. Commissioners out now! @johnclancy @olleyatgrit @markgoughitv evidenceinvestor.com/post/co…

Greatly honoured to be elected Chair of the Planning Committee at today’s Annual Meeting of @BhamCityCouncil, a post I held from 2022-2024. Proud to be part of a broad coalition under @rogerbhx ready to address the many challenges facing our great city.
It wasn’t to be for me but over the moon @martinibrooks has been re-elected as councillor for Harborne. One of the hardest working people I know and I’ll continue to do everything I can to help and support for the people of Harborne!
📣 On the eve of the election, we want to take a moment to say a genuine and heartfelt thank you. To everyone who has supported us, stopped for a chat on the doorstep, shared their concerns, liked or commented on our posts, or simply encouraged us along the way - your support has meant everything. It’s been a long campaign, but it’s also been a privilege to meet so many people who care deeply about Harborne and want to see it thrive.
Over the last few years, we’ve worked side by side across every part of Harborne, tackling the issues that matter to you. We’ve dealt with individual casework, supported residents through difficult situations, challenged problems with public services, reported fly‑tipping and potholes, and shown up at community events week after week. We’ve tried to be present, practical and persistent. We would never claim to have solved every problem - no one can - but we have always given everything we have.
Tomorrow, you have the chance to make your voice heard. A vote for Martin Brooks and James Cross is a vote for two candidates who will always put Harborne and its residents first. We will continue to stand up for our community, work hard on your behalf, and be the kind of representatives who listen, act and stay visible all year round.
Whatever happens tomorrow, thank you for being part of this journey with us.
Vote Martin Brooks & James Cross - Harborne Independents
Still no sign of Ian in either Harborne or Quinton despite him being a neighbour on every road across both wards!
We’re still on the look out for Ian! Despite claims of being a neighbour (on every road in Harborne and Quinton), we can’t locate him.
Ian, coming to a ward near you!
The latest stunt from Birmingham Labour ⬇️
A letter designed to look like a hand written note from a neighbour called Ian.
Atleast they acknowledge Labour aren’t perfect. Far from it in Birmingham!
It would appear a lot of residents have a neighbour called Ian!
Incredible support on the doorsteps across Harborne👏🏻
On 7th May, vote James Cross & Martin Brooks - Independents for Harborne
Not to mention what your own Gov Dept @mhclg said about the current @BrumLabour leadership
“Weak governance, poor culture, ineffective service delivery, poor relationships with trade unions and financial challenges”
I strongly welcome this development. I know how hard the Labour Leader, John Cotton, and our Labour Mayor Richard Parker have worked behind the scenes with Unite, and others, to find a resolution which is in the interests of the city, its residents, its workers and its future.
It’s now clear what is on the table at the local elections in Birmingham - a speedy and agreed way forward, or more uncertainty and ongoing dispute with either Reform or the Greens.
Pretty disgraceful using this as an election tool when the people of Birmingham haven’t had a recycling or green waste service for well over a year and collections have been missed.
You fail to mention the Labour Council leadership walked away from negotiations last summer, prolonging the strike and over £33m of our tax payers money has been spent during the strike.
The residents of Birmingham won’t forget the damage you’ve caused to our City.

How very convenient just in time for the election. This should have been done months ago and Labour should never have walked away from negotiations last summer.
Postal voters should now be receiving their ballot papers. Keep an eye on the post and return yours as soon as you can.
Vote Martin Brooks & James Cross - Harborne Independents - working all year round for Harborne.
Honoured to have been asked by @martinibrooks to be his running mate early last year having previously worked together on the Harborne Day Centre campaign. Since then, we’ve faced many challenges across Harborne with public services under threat of closure.
On 7th May, Harborne residents can choose to vote for a team that works all year round for Harborne.
A generous article by Mike Olley on my prospects of winning Harborne as an Independent, alongside my colleague James Cross. Proud to be standing together as the local team working for Harborne throughout the year.

Below is our letter to Harborne postal voters which we’re finishing delivering today
@martinibrooks
Nice of Labour leader of @BhamCityCouncil to be in and around Harborne this weekend. In December 2024, at a meeting of the City Council, I invited him to visit Harborne Day Centre but wouldn’t.
Closing 4 of the 9 adult day care centres across the city was one of the cruelest aspect of the cuts made in my opinion.
Funny how he can show up when it’s election time to try and get your vote but the public can see right through this.
Great to be out across constituency knocking doors with our fantastic local Labour candidates, @RichParkerLab @BrumLeader and members, working hard for our community.
Really positive conversations on the doorstep. Let’s keep delivering for our area -vote Labour on 7 May. 🌹
On 7 May, vote for the team that works all year round for Harborne not just when election time comes around. We’ve been out in the community week after week, dealing with real issues, supporting residents, and pushing for the improvements Harborne deserves.
We’re an experienced team with a proven track record. Whether it’s helping individuals with casework, resolving housing and planning concerns, supporting local businesses, or tackling wider community challenges, we’ve consistently shown that we know how to get things done.
Vote James Cross & Martin Brooks - Independent candidates for Harborne
‘Weak governance, poor culture, ineffective service delivery, poor relationships with trade unions and financial challenges’.
Your own government don’t back @BrumLabour 🥀
The choice is clear for Brummies on 7 May. Unity and fresh ambition with @BrumLabour or division & despair from Reform, fringe parties and so-called independents. #VoteLabour 🌹
