Brooks, Alberta🇨🇦: Population= 18,000 (⬆️+15% since 2020, under UCP govt) Has 2nd largest beef-processing plant in 🇨🇦: most workers (70%) are immigrants (guess WHY) UCP govt paid for ads across Canada inviting people to move to AB for jobs. It now blames immigration.
Check out the demographics of Brooks, AB, since 2001. The transformation has been so extreme that its school district made Eid a holiday in 2022. You can't let "immigration has benefitted my community" turn into "I don't recognize my community anymore.

Here is what those blaming immigrants who work in Brooks, Alberta ignore: Wage markdowns to drive up profits so that only immigrants would want to work in the meat processing industry. The same UCP govt that encourages this now blames immigration. yorku.ca/euc/news-story/the-…

"Black women in U.S.A are three times more likely to die in pregnancy or childbirth than white women. In Canada, severe maternal morbidity occurred in 47.8 out of 1,000 live births for Black moms vs. 27.7 out of 1,000 live births for a white moms. cbc.ca/news/health/black-mat…

What a sight to behold: students in one of the wealthiest countries in the world protesting poor education! They always have money for unnecessary wars, but not for education.
Students across France are protesting poor classroom conditions, staff shortages and a below-inflation education budget increase, with tens of thousands joining nationwide demonstrations reut.rs/47CtPyI

Some countries in that part of the pond have done the similar or worse things: killed UN staff, hijacked or bombed ships in the sea, are repressive, ruled by war criminals or unelected autocrats, and have prevented food and medicine from reaching sick kids.
The Houthis are indeed a genuine problem: repressive, misogynistic autocrats who detain UN staff and fire at ships traversing the Red Sea. But the last Saudi war on them did not dislodge them, and I don't think this one will either--but it does risk Saudi oil infrastructure.

Informative research. My on-going study has different findings: There is significant impact of students' immigration background. On average, first and to a large extent, second gen immigrant students in Canada and the USA perform better than peers from non-immigrant families.
Children from immigrant backgrounds have almost the same early learning and development scores as their peers, after accounting for socio-economic status & language spoken at home. Read the world’s largest study of five-year-olds' learning & development: oecd.org/en/publications/bui…

🇰🇪 President @WilliamsRuto pretended to be a pan-Africanist. Now, he is telling Kenyans that they are suffering because of unfair competition from Africans from outside Kenya who are doing small scale businesses in Kenya. The result, xenophobia brewing right before our eyes.
A Burundian who cooks chapo dondo in Githurai attacked all of his food taken away, Kenyans love free things.

President Biden instituted DEI in government services. Trump reversed Biden's policy. Based on one study, Kaufmann uses Trump's reasoning to condemn DEI as discrimination against white men. He cites Jason Arday as proof of what's wrong with DEI. It is all nonsensical escapism.
It costs Canada millions to discriminate against white male academics, writes Eric Kaufmann. The groups who benefit from diversity-based recruitment in the Canada Research Chairs program have the lowest research impact nationalpost.com/opinion/eri…

No victim of modern slavery should be trapped with an exploitative employer because of their immigration status. From today, recognised victims on Skilled Worker visas can leave abusive employers and work elsewhere without risking their immigration status.

Someone is trying hard to justify the slaughter of innocent civilians, including thousands of children.
Opinion: The problem with refusing to reason through the awfulness of civilian deaths is that it can lead to a spurious moral equivalence nationalpost.com/opinion/cbc…

A sacred ‘talking drum’ looted by French troops in 1916 has been returned to its home village in Ivory Coast after more than a century. The Djidji Ayokwe, which the Ebrie community used to transmit messages and warn of danger, was officially returned by France in February.
