And Alexei Navalny’s moving memoir, which needs no further description.
After a week off, a couple more for my #2026books list. This by Catalan author Irene Solá was a beautiful tale of life and love in the mountains.

Thought-provoking short essays by Orwell. Some written nearly a century ago, but with plenty of relevance today - across politics, media, culture, and war. #2026books

Ukraine’s security is our security 🇬🇧🇺🇦
Backing Ukraine means helping it withstand Russian attacks, keeping essential services running and strengthening the security we all depend on.    The Chancellor has announced £10bn of economic support for Ukraine over three years.

Latest on my #2026books list: a selection of some of Roald Dahl’s short stories. Always a sting in the tail.

Antony Beevor’s classic on D-Day 1944. I read it to understand better what my (paternal) Grandad went through: as an 18 year old volunteer in the British Army he took part in the D-Day landings on Juno beach. #2026books

20 years on from the killing of journalist Anna Politkovskaya, the @MediaFreedomC – which the UK chairs with Finland  – has called on Russia to bring those responsible for her murder to justice, and ensure the safety of journalists who speak truth to power.

The UK stands with the International Criminal Court and we stand united with our partners in strongly disagreeing with sanctions imposed on the Court. The ICC must be permitted to continue its critical work holding perpetrators of the most horrific international crimes to account.

This morning along with @ZelenskyyUa I visited Pryluky in Ukraine, the site of a horrific attack by Russia earlier this week. 22 innocent people lost their lives there, including tragically 5 children, as a result of Putin's barbaric war of terror on the Ukrainian people. My message was clear: we will stand with the people of Ukraine for as long as it takes.

The facts are clear. Russia chose, without provocation, to invade Ukraine and violate its OSCE commitments. Its conduct of the war has led to grave, documented abuses. Russia can end this war. It must now choose peace. 🇬🇧🇺🇦 UK statement: gov.uk/government/speeches/t…

Latest to add to my #2026books list, by @SimonMcDonaldUK. Read it mainly for reflections on the past; full of wise thoughts for the present and future too. This point on Jekyll and Hyde is important for any leader, and indeed anyone.

I also had a fruitful catch-up with my UK colleague @Ed_Miliband. I thanked him for the UK’s steadfast support for Ukraine and our strong partnership. We discussed countering Russia’s growing security threats to Ukraine and Europe. These challenges demand urgent and decisive action, and the UK continues to lead by example. We also followed up on the agreements reached during the UK Prime Minister’s recent visit to Ukraine and his meeting with President of Ukraine, and coordinated further steps to advance their implementation.
