Only 46 measures. Approximately 4 minutes. Mozart wrote “Ave Verum Corpus” in June 1791 — near the end of his life. So simple it's almost bare, yet it contains the heavens. Leonardo Bernstein conducted it at Waldsassen Cathedral in 1990 — slowly, lovingly, as if unwilling to leave each note. A miracle in a small package.

Did you know? Benjamin Franklin’s glass armonica used to be banned in some German towns, amid fears that its ethereal sound could cause illness or madness. Before those bans, its sound inspired Mozart to write Adagio in C, K. 356 (K. 617a), in 1791. Its ethereal sound later became surrounded by strange fears and legends. Have you ever heard it? 🎵

Eero Jarnefelt's cloud study (1893) is a view over Lake Pielinen near Koli in North Karelia in eastern Finland - creatives of Järnefelt's generation, from Sibelius to Akseli Gallen-Kallela, saw Karelia as a lost paradise and an embodiment of the authentic soul of Finland.

Today, ITERATE, my exhibition with 3 other members of the Royal Society of Sculptors opens at Strange Parade in SE London. I'm showing two bodies of work using pins: one uses thousands as component parts, the other used just one as a tool.

Nobody wants a city on Mars. Nobody wants AI in every app. Nobody wants data centers in space. Nobody wants humanoid robots or flying cars. We want clean water. We want a stable climate. We want a habitable planet. We want wildlife to survive. We want to live.

"Thames Water could be nationalised under Burnham tenure without spending a penny’." Now there's a very good idea and there are plenty of ways to do it all that's needed is vision, determination and ambition. mirror.co.uk/news/politics/t…

Why do politicians feel the need to don the uniform of the commercial enterprise they visit - or have they taken second jobs..?
Prime Minister Andy Burnham came to Lambeth yesterday to promote Sainsbury's workfare scheme for 10,000 young people to work for free in their supermarkets. Sainsbury's cut 3000 jobs last year while simultaneously posting a £1 billion profit. Strangely the Leader of Lambeth Council was not invited. Lambeth's young people deserve better than this; quality apprenticeships and training that provide them with the skills, experience and pay to live and thrive in our borough. Andy Burnham promised to "end neoliberalism" but supporting a scheme to provide free labour for Billion pound companies will only serve to perpetuate it.

It would be cool if billionaires started competing over who could plant the most trees, build the most hospitals, libraries, and parks, house the most homeless people, restore the most ecosystems, and remove the most pollution from Earth, all just to show off.

90% of England’s water industry owned by foreign investors. Customers treated as cash cows. £88.4bn paid in dividends since privatisation. 1 trillion litres of water a year, 20% of household supply, lost to leaks. 41+ trillion lost since privatisation. leftfootforward.org/2026/08/…

"Andy Burnham urged to 'hold his nerve' after claimed rethink over Thames Water nationalisation." And it's bloody good advice. I've long suspected that lawyers within Defra have been ill advising ministers with their ultra cautious, ultra conservative approach. It's that very timidity nay weakness that the industry has exploited that got us into this mess in the first place. mirror.co.uk/news/politics/a…

She was always proud that her little program grew into what it is today. She was proudest of what it meant to her Dad. In her own words: "My Daddy told me the Imagination Library was probably the most important thing I had ever done." (cont)

"Andy Burnham is considering ripping up the country’s insolvency laws to make it easier to bring key utilities such as Thames Water under public control." Now that my friends would be very, very good news. theguardian.com/business/202…

RIP Dolly Parton, a fabulous songstress, a glitzy delight, and a wise woman, who should also be remembered for her Imagination Library, a global book gifting programme devoted to inspiring a love of reading in children from birth to five.

A prelude of what is to come. Just you wait until this drought breaks and that inevitable deluge of rain comes and with it million of tons of sh*t getting dumped into our rivers and onto our beaches.
It rained for an hour or so overnight, the first rain we've seen in quite some time. Yet it was enough for @SouthernWater to release sewage in Hythe, thus rendering their beach unsafe to swim today.
