Thx @NickRHart and @SuzetteKKent for shining light on the $3,000/person/year cost of the federal govt failing to use data that is on hand. Reduce improper payments by modernizing data governance. Great recs, to which I'd add drawing insights from cities as well as states.

Nick, agree with you that using data doesn’t have to mean choosing sides. Here’s to your continued “radical collaboration”
In the past 24 hours I've been asked dozens of times what the election means for our national data and evidence initiatives. I'll have much more to say in coming days. In the interim, I'm going to share a piece I wrote in 2019 about the Federal Data Strategy issued by OMB's Russ Vought. The Data Foundation has a core value of "radical collaboration" that we live every day -- we work with everyone because when it comes to using data and evidence, we don't choose sides, we aspire to truth and use for improving society. nextgov.com/ideas/2019/07/fe…

A topic I've been thinking about for much of my career; the (sometimes tense) relationship between accountability and discretion. See how #GenAI and other types of #artificialintelligence can transform this aspect of governance in my newest paper.
Our newest working paper is live: co-authored by @GoldsmithOnGov and Juncheng "Tony" Yang, this piece further explores the potential for #artificialintelligence and #GenAI to transform governance through increasing both discretion and accountability. datasmart.hks.harvard.edu/ai…

Its not every day that dedicated public servants just doing their job makes the news. Kudos to the CIA for their work to prevent the attack planned in Austria. Thx @julianbarnes for this story.

National survey data is our next crumbling infrastructure. Instead of bridges collapsing it will be policy without the foundation of data. This is an unseen but urgent need. Thx @AmstatNews for this report.

Workers shouldn’t have to risk their lives because of #ExtremeHeat. @OSHA_DOL is developing a rule but it’s gonna take a while. (Plus SCOTUS 😒). All hands on deck! States & local govt must act & of course workers/unions are key. My latest in @nytimes nytimes.com/2024/06/21/opini…

Thought-provoking piece from @_Jen_Silverman in @nytimes on the role of art in society. For me, being in an art museum or going to a show is about wonder and curiosity and exploring the grey in between life’s black and white. Otherwise we may as well stay home.
