Today, together with stakeholders, we joined the Rt. Hon. @Thomas_Tayebwa who represented Maama the First Lady, @JanetMuseveni to launch the National Framework for Education on Health and Life Skills at the Office of the President. This home-grown, values-based and age-appropriate Framework gives our children one national compass to navigate challenges of adolescence, teenage pregnancy, HIV, substance abuse, mental health and misuse of digital media. I thank Maama for her moral clarity in insisting Uganda must have its own direction. @GovUganda @CHRISBARYOMUNS1 @OgwangOgwang @MinofHealthUG @UgandaMediaCent @BeatBisangwa

Thank you Rt. Hon. @Thomas_Tayebwa for taking time off your busy schedule to share these insights with us. It was a very enriching session.
This morning, I opened the quarterly meeting of sectoral committee chairpersons, regional and zonal whips at Mestil Hotel, convened by the Government Chief Whip, Hon. Dr. @JaneRuth_Aceng, to assess their performance during the first quarter. I made a presentation on how we can use Musevenomics, our homegrown economic philosophy, conceptualised by H.E. @KagutaMuseveni and later elaborated by Gen. Salim Saleh, as an engine for economic transformation. This philosophy has already contributed to macroeconomic stability, increased electricity generation, expansion of the road network, the Parish Development Model and other achievements. The next chapter of this philosophy is helping us realise our ambition of achieving tenfold economic growth and building a USD 500 billion economy by 2040. We will pursue this through commercial agriculture and value addition, full monetisation of our economy, industrialisation and lowering the cost of doing business. I told my colleagues that we must play our part by anchoring Musevenomics in law and the national budget. This will include prioritising value addition, allocating more funding to initiatives that boost production, and strengthening oversight of programmes designed to lift Ugandans out of poverty, among other measures.

🇺🇬 Government Chief Whip Dr Jane Ruth Aceng (Lira City Woman MP) has told Parliament that the National Health Insurance Scheme Bill, which MPs passed on 31 March 2021, “will soon be scheduled before Cabinet”. Jinja South Division East MP Paul Mwiru had argued that the President took none of the actions the law requires on the Bill, and said he has a motion before the Speaker to have it laid under Article 91(7) of the Constitution so that it becomes law. Aceng disagreed. “The President did respond to the National Health Insurance Scheme Bill. When it was passed, that is about nearly five or six years ago, he responded and clearly highlighted areas that needed to be revisited, reworked on, and then represented again.” She was Minister of Health when Parliament passed the Bill. Parliament’s own report of that sitting records that the Ministry had asked for the Bill to be withdrawn. Photo by Parliament

Finance State Minister Amos Lugoloobi says Government is still consulting stakeholders. The statement will be debated alongside Energy and Mineral Development Minister Monica Musenero’s already-tabled statement on rising fuel prices. “Because you can't talk about fuel without looking at the global market and the factors that are distorting the prices,” Oboth says. The Government Chief Whip undertakes to ensure Finance and the Bank of Uganda work together on the response: “One week is enough.” Photos by @Parliament_Ug
