CONFIRMED. Gas Standing Charges to be scrapped. I've just come out of a meeting with the Chancellor. The gas standing charge will be scrapped in 2027 (my guess, either for 1 Oct price cap or the 1 Jan 28 price cap). Having campaigned against the moral hazard of standing charges for years, I'm pleased.
It's currently £108 a year. That cost will be shifted onto unit rates. We don't know how much yet, but I suspect just under 1p per kwH.
The Chancellor also said he will be talking to Ofgem about how they get rid of the charge on electricity as well, but that is 'trickier' apparently and will take longer.
This is primarily about the price cap standing charges. There will still be an open market, so other firms can offer other forms of prices with or without the standing charge. My suspicion is that once it goes on the price cap, it will tend to be reduced on other tariffs as well.
As for those on fixes: if you get a fix now, the rate of your fix is fixed, so this should not affect it. You will pay what you pay and if it has standing charges they will continue (some asking if they should delay fixing because of this, no if a fix is right for you and will save you money, don't let this change that - this is about the structure of bills, as opposed to the actual costs on bills).
About 60% of people will pay less due to this, 40% more. My guesstimate is the dividing line will be somewhere around 12,500 kilowatt hours of gas (can't know until there is actual pricing). According to a study by Nesta, this switch would leave the majority of people in all income groups under £100,000 better off.
Of course, when this does come in, if we're still in the nightmare that we are right now, there will need to be support put in for vulnerable higher users, who will have to pay more. Though hopefully by then the mid-east will have calmed and energy prices lower.
---------------
That's all long term. The biggest issue in energy right now is that we're expecting a 27% rise in the price cap in January. I asked the Chancellor whether he will be intervening on that. He told me I'd have to wait for the budget, but reading between the lines, yes, there will be an announcement today.
Whether it's an increase in the Warm Home Discount, or whether it's council tax banned, or whether it's done via a payout for people in say council tax bands A-D as a proxy for household income as Rishi Sunak did who knows.
Are they including the value of the defined benefit public sector pensions within the £2m? #hmrc #hmrcletter

And yet the away fans who can see what he does close up love him.
Not quite sure what to make of this continued anti-Gyok stuff. All I know is as a supporter anyone on that pitch in an Arsenal shirt gets my full support.
Trossard was not sent off for kicking the ball away. He was given a yellow card for the action. The fact he already had a yellow card nothing to do with kicking the ball away. Debates are best won with facts.
Just some feedback for those who can influence things. This will clearly go long way below 50. Surely we could have other windows for Monday? Some clarity of when other windows will be given so many will be travelling to and from Munich next week? @AngusMoorat @DarrenArsenal1

Erm. Not answering the question there, David. How about a simple yes or no? And if you have any proof the PL have hired external PRs to shill for them, please share and I’ll get digging.
Replying to @sportingintel
Totally none of your business Nick. But do not make assumptions. Why don't you ask the Premier League who they have hired?

Hi David, have you or your PR company ever been paid by Man City or any related MCFC entity for PR advice and / or promotion of their narrative, or received benefit-in-kind gifts for tweeting / writing / promoting their version of events? Thanks in advance for your swift response
Wondering if the Premier League could send @ManCity a cheque for the soaring revenues the massive global interest in our games is drawing.... Sunday's game may be the most watched ever in many global broadcast markets... bonuses all round at the PL!

🚨 BREAKING!
The Stretford End will welcome back the famous ‘ticker’ flag tomorrow!
Which has been updated to read ‘51 YEARS’ - erasing the 20 major honours Manchester City have won since the Abu Dhabi United Group takeover of the club in 2009!
I’m still waiting for the death of equities Business Week 1979
I've been making the case for bonds.
If this cover cannot convince you that it's time for bonds, I cannot help you anymore!!
@donnelly_brent
Here’s my view….. as soon as I refresh twice I get a suspicious activity message and blocked. Bots carry on regardless. They are blocking the wrong people and it’s not good enough. We are in a golden age for Arsenal and time is of the essence to sort this out.
The ticket exchange is so broken it’s unbelievable, I got a Leeds ticket earlier and it felt like I was trying to get one for a CL semi final / final home game of the season.
I’m sorry but it’s just not good enough how the ticket exchange gets worse every single season, in fact it gets worse mid season as well.
I’m on it now trying to get one for a friend and my word it’s so bad.
The constant spike in queues showing us there’s thousands of bots, yes the club ban them but what’s the point when they can just make new accounts
ID verification is needed today!
More than 156,000 tickets have been purchased from the Tx last year, averaging approximately 5,200 per game.
I truely believe if the club put right amount of effort into making it usable and taking out all bots, we’d have better atmospheres at the stadium, we’d have parents that can take their kids to the game as pairs will be easier to basket etc etc
It’s just not good enough for a club as big as Arsenal.
We need clearer information on why the ticket exchange keeps getting worse
Do we drop ticket master?
I’d love to meet the head of IT tech to find out what’s being done.
Mikel Arteta's new contract will see him take this Arsenal team to the end of its cycle.
Come 2030, here are the ages of five very key players to this project: Gabriel 32, Odegaard 31, Rice 31, Havertz 31, Raya 35.
Will he stay for a rebuild? #afc
