I understand that my feed is full of posts of people sharing some inane business advice accompanied with a photo of them sipping a coffee because it โbreaks the scrollโ.
Well, I just got back from Italy. Didnโt drink much espresso but I *did* sniff a lot of pizza.
Does this count?
Ohโฆ and remember, itโs all about the journey not the destination.
I'm doing something new: every week I'll share an honest update on what's happening at B2B Better. The good, the bad, and the ugly.
Here's week one.
>> The good and the bad: the market is shifting
Every agency owner I talk to right now is telling me the same thing - inbound interest is up, but conversion to closed-won is down. We've felt it too, for about six months. But this week, three proposals landed almost back to back. Could be nothing, but I'm starting to think we're hitting a tipping point - buyers getting more confident, purse strings loosening, and budget season kicking in at the same time. Cautiously optimistic.
>> The good: we're not just talking about AI, we're using it
We've been building AI into how we operate for months now. This week it paid off in hard numbers: we've cut our SaaS spend by around 60% month on month, replacing tools with things we've built ourselves inside our own operating system, B2B Hub.
I think there's a lot of noise out there about agencies "transforming with AI." Most of it is just that, noise. Very few people are actually shipping in a meaningful, systemitised way. I think we are genuinely ahead of the curve. But the market moves fast, and the moment you get comfortable is the moment you get left behind, so we keep building.
>> The ugly: August is tough
Not just because of the heat! Half the team has been out on well-deserved holiday, and it's put our internal processes to the test. The last couple of weeks have been harder than I'd like to admit. But this is exactly the kind of stress test that tells you whether your processes actually hold up - and by and large, ours have. That's down to having a team who know their stuff and can roll with the punches, even a couple of people down.
See you next week!
Heading to Rome next week. ๐ฎ๐น
Already booked:

What should I do for fun? Where should I eat?
There's a group in agency land I'd call the โTrophy Chasersโ.
Businesses that seem to measure whether it's been a good year by how many statuettes theyโve picked up, rather than something more meaningful - like how many clients they won.
I've never once had a client ask if we've won anything. As far as I can tell, it has never played a serious role in whether someone chooses to work with us.
Am I wrong about this?
said goodbye to this cutie today after 3 weeks fostering before she went to her forever home
i think i might be a dog person now?
whatโs the logic behind LinkedIn posts about whatever business topic combined with a photo of the guy drinking an espresso?
spent a couple of hours today working on our website and it's looking *plush*
rebuilding it with Claude Code was one of the best decisions we've taken as an agency

Took my daughter to fly a kite today.
We ended up doing it for like an hour and a half.
It was utterly *whimsical*.

Well, this week, I finally caved and fired up the terminal to build a website for the first time since like 2018
I got fed up of feeling my Webflow site was a blocky, boring site that just didn't feel like me
So I learned Figma (which has always evaded me), opened Cursor and started working with the MCP to build out my new site
I used Astro which was a surprisingly pleasant time. Last time I worked with a flat file system it was Gatsby which was not a good time
It was really cool to see this more modern workflow and how much easier it is to build a site now
Realistically, I barely touched the code in the end. Just worked through issues with Cursor and designed in Figma as I worked through the sitemap
Really happy with the end product: positivehuman.co/
You ever go for a run and it's just *terrible* in every way?
Barely scraped through a 5K this morning after not having eaten last night, only five hours sleep, trying to run faster than average, and experimenting with a longer stride than usual.
Hard lesson(s) learned on the road to the Bournemouth Marathon in October.
SaaS products Iโve cancelled because weโve created our own internal versions with Claude Code:
ClickUp
Timetastic
Calendly
Webflow
Fyxer
Zapier

Six weeks ago, when you typed in โB2B Podcast Agencyโ into Google, B2B Better would not have appeared in the top 30 results.
Looking at that same term incognito this morning, weโve jumped all the way up to a top three spot. Same deal with surfacing in ChatGPT for the prompt โB2B Podcast Agencies in the UK.โ
Whatโs changed?
Ever since I set up B2B Better, Iโve never been too concerned with SEO, AEO, or GEO. Our business came in primarily through referrals, word of mouth, outbound, and the content that we were putting out there on social media. It worked and continues to do so.
However, Iโm never satisfied with an incomplete picture and organic search has been a gap. So, a couple of months ago, I sat down and did three things:
1. We rebuilt our site using Claude Code. This has made it incredibly easy for us to quickly spin up new pages and content directly from a chat console and run real-time audits on how we can improve our SEO/GEO/AEO.
2. Committed to posting new blogs featuring our keywords every day on the website. Previously, we weren't publishing anything, but because we've now rebuilt the site, we have built an agent that can quickly surface news stories from our industry directly into Slack, prompt us to provide our perspective using voice dictation, and have the article drafted for before sending it to us to approve. The whole process takes 15 minutes each day.
3. Created a ton more content for YouTube and LinkedIn, with a focus on including keywords in the posts, show notes, transcripts, etc.
Speaking with my friends who know far more about AEO and GEO than me (looking at you, @DarrylSparey) from Hard Numbers) it's becoming increasingly clear that these two platforms are a prime resource for citations in LLMs. If you're not taking a strategic approach to creating content consistently on these platforms, you are missing out.

It's been literally as simple as that. And now we're getting inbound leads for our B2B podcast agency from search for the first time ever.
