𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗖𝗜𝗔𝗟 𝗜𝗡𝗩𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗚𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗠𝗜𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗘 𝗢𝗡 𝗙𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗜𝗔𝗟 𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗠𝗘
I take note of the Attorney General’s Chambers’ statement dated 28 October 2026, which stated that:
1. A committee called the Special Investigation Committee on Financial Crime met for the first time, chaired by the Attorney General.
2. The meeting was held to determine the committee’s membership, scope and parameters of investigation.
3. This special committee will conduct a comprehensive investigation tracing financial crime from its origins to the present.
This statement must be read alongside several recent statements by the government:
i. When answering questions in Parliament last week about investigations into the corporate mafia, the Prime Minister avoided addressing the corporate mafia case specifically. Instead, he repeatedly referred to financial crime, citing examples from the 1980s to the present.
ii. The Communications Minister was reported as saying that the proposed terms of reference for the special task force investigating allegations relating to the corporate mafia would be presented at this week’s Cabinet meeting.
Since the corporate mafia case was reported earlier this year, the government has given the impression that full investigations have been and are being conducted.
The government’s statements and answers in Parliament confirmed that an investigation report into Tan Sri Azam Baki’s shareholdings had been presented to the Cabinet, and that an investigation operation called Ops Viking was focusing on the corporate mafia.
The public therefore knows that various investigations have already been conducted and reports prepared. The controversy arose when the government refused to disclose the findings of these investigations, despite having previously announced its willingness to do so.
With the Attorney General chairing yet another meeting following the establishment of yet another special committee, several questions must be examined:
1. What has happened to the previous investigations and reports, particularly the report to the Cabinet on Tan Sri Azam Baki’s shareholdings?
2. Has this committee’s scope been expanded to cover financial crime as a whole, rather than solely the corporate mafia scandal?
3. How much public money will be wasted if investigations are restarted, when various reports and investigations have already been completed?
4. If the scope is expanded to cover financial crime as a whole - as suggested by the Prime Minister’s answers in Parliament last week - is this an attempt to bury the real issues surrounding the corporate mafia and divert attention towards a broader financial crime investigation?
I have been monitoring social media content from the government’s cyber troopers, which clearly seeks to mislead the public by equating the corporate mafia with financial crime.
This follows the line taken by the Prime Minister in his answers last week. Now, the special committee tasked with investigating the matter also refers to financial crime, rather than the corporate scandal.
I would advise the Prime Minister and those advising him that, if this is what is happening, it will only intensify public anger over the corporate mafia.
The corporate mafia scandal centres on several fundamental questions:
i. Investigating allegations of involvement, influence and interference in government affairs and law enforcement agencies involving Farhash Wafa Salvador, who is known to be close to the Prime Minister.
ii. Investigating allegations that law enforcement agencies such as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) were used to intimidate company owners and shareholders for the benefit of certain parties.
iii. Investigating Victor Chin’s allegation that a PKR Member of Parliament - subsequently named as R Ramanan - received a bribe of RM9.5 million to resolve the corporate mafia case.
iv. Investigating government procurement contracts that have been influenced by, and become entangled with, individuals linked to the corporate mafia.
v. Investigating the flow of funds through transactions connected to the corporate mafia to establish who benefited.
An investigation that successfully resolves these five questions should lead to prosecutions, supported by evidence presented in court, given that details and documents concerning the corporate scandal have been widely reported.
Conversely, if these five questions remain unanswered and the government is seen to be using manoeuvres to cover them up, all its efforts to deflect public attention from the corporate mafia scandal will fail.
