“Living standards are falling for us.” Yet UK banks just posted £29bn in half-year profits. Lloyds’ profits jumped 99% to £2.3bn as mortgage rates hit 6%, while Shell doubled its profits to £8bn. This isn’t just an economic crisis; it’s a wealth transfer.

But that's just a tech product feature. How does it contribute to solving the real problems of this world which are 'to elimiate warfare, end poverty, promote equality, exile disease, establish justice and increase joy.'

What a powerful, prophetic statement made by Ursula K Le Guin in 2014. In hard times, when greed, corruption and power seem overwhelming, it is writers and writing who often help articulate a new way forward. We are in such times again. Her words then resonate now. Watch.
Ursula K. Le Guin in 2014:
“Hard times are coming, when we will be wanting voices who can see alternatives to how we live now, can see through our fear-stricken society and its obsessive technologies to other ways of being…We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable—but then, so did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings.”
During the feudal era, the greed and power of kings ruled society until the people fought back.
Now, in the capitalist era, the greed and power of billionaires rule society. Like the kings, they think their reign will last forever, but it will only last until the people rise up and change it.
Different eras, similar struggle. The struggle of the people to liberate ourselves from the greed of the ruling class and the power and wealth imbalances of top-down hierarchical societies.
As powerful and inescapable as capitalism feels, it has no power without the people and the workers who make it run! Once the people figure this out en masse the world is ours to collectively share together!

.@unitetheunion has put two serious proposals on the table: raising tax thresholds and capping energy profits. Together, they could put around £700 into the pocket of the average household.
This government needs to face the scale of the problem, and right now it isn’t even close.

Corporate greed is Microsoft making $134 billion in profits last year, receiving $19 billion in tax breaks under Trump, paying a lower federal income tax rate than a nurse and getting rid of 60,000 workers.
“Corporations will create jobs if they get tax breaks” is a total scam.

"Young people are like: Please give me an alienating bullsh*t job! I just want to pay my bills!"
In 2018, David Graeber published the book Bullsh*t Jobs: A Theory, arguing that capitalist economies have become “vast engines for producing nonsense” held up by hordes of soulless jobs offering meaningless work.
Almost a decade on, the problem now is that there aren't even "bullsh*t jobs" available for young people to pay the bills and move out of their family home, argues @DaliaGebrial on Novara Live.

Bloomberg: "A new anxiety is gripping Wall Street as it bankrolls the vast network of data centers and chips behind the artificial intelligence boom: Early signs suggest that the credit market is approaching the limits of how much more debt it can absorb.
One after another, yields are soaring into the double digits on bonds and loans funding the AI infrastructure buildout. Bankers are finding it more difficult to offload risk to insurers and other investors."

A quick reminder of the beauty of circular financing.... I doubt there has ever been this level of dependence in the US market, as we're seeing among the AI companies today.

We will wish we had listened to these warnings before the massive attack that is coming. To summarize: all code has bugs, continuous attacks by thousand of AI agents guarantees that they WILL eventually find their way into any website/database/system. So we need a new way of thinking about defense.
The cyber tsunami isn't a future prediction. It's here already.
As I’ve said before, all code is buggy. And recent events continue to prove this, at scale The exposure we just witnessed from vulnerabilities in the PHP engine made evident the buggy truth far faster than anyone in the industry expected.
PHP powers 70% of the web. For years, deep engine vulnerabilities inside platforms like Zend were known, but widely ignored because the industry assumed they were too complex for human attackers to weaponize.
AI just flipped that assumption on its head.
By drastically lowering the cost and time required to find exploits, AI models discovered attack paths that human developers couldn't easily see or predict. Attackers are no longer just exploiting custom application code; they are cracking open the underlying platform engines that power millions of websites simultaneously.
The waves are coming ashore.
AI creates "toxic combinations" by chaining together lower-priority bugs that seem harmless on their own. A Priority 3 bug today can easily become a Priority 0 crisis tomorrow when a smarter model finds a new way to connect the dots. In short: cyber attacks have moved beyond human comprehension.
The hard truth for every CEO and Board member is that much of the legacy cybersecurity playbook was built for a human-comprehension era. Those tools and assumptions are now obsolete.
You cannot patch your way out of a tsunami.
When every piece of software is penetrable under continuous AI analysis, the strategy has to change. Prevention alone is no longer enough
The ultimate metric is cyber resilience. You must assume breach, and preemptively plan to protect your core, critical operations, and ensure that your business can get back up and running the moment the water reaches you. It is rising around us all.

Beware of finance industry lobbying.
It hired PwC (the firm that delivers dud audits) to produce a report, claiming that UK banks face highest rates of tax.
The report included taxes not borne by banks. Omitted countries that levy higher rates of taxes.
