“Die With A Smile” and Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” are racing to become the first song by a female artist to reach 4 billion streams in Spotify history. Both are incredible records, but which one will get there first?

Before the Statue of Liberty was complete, Americans saw the arm. Parisians saw the head. The torch-bearing arm was displayed at the 1876 Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia, while the head was exhibited at the 1878 Exposition Universelle in Paris. The completed statue was assembled in New York and dedicated in 1886. Imagine encountering either of these at a world’s fair.

For nearly 1,500 years, the Great Buddha of Bamiyan stood 55 meters (180 ft) tall in this cliffside niche in Afghanistan. Carved in the 6th century along the Silk Road, it formed part of a vast Buddhist complex of monasteries, sanctuaries, and painted caves. The statue was destroyed in 2001. Today, the empty niche remains—preserving the scale of what was lost.
