Another son forced on to social media & into politics by this venal Pakistani regime …
No one has seen or heard from my father since August, when he explicitly said that he was being tortured and that the regime was trying to kill him like Egypt’s government did Morsi. The UN Special Rapporteur on torture has repeatedly stated that his treatment amounts to torture. Pakistan’s fascist regime, led by military dictator Asim Munir, continue to ignore the Supreme Court order from August for my father to be assessed and treated at the private Shifa International Hospital, as well as for regular access to family visits and access to his lawyers. It is clear that they are trying to kill him as he is by far the most popular political figure in the country, and they fear him. If the worst happens, no one should make any mistake who is responsible. It is Asim Munir with the approval of the illegitimate Pakistani government. Every government that continues to legitimise this regime will be complicit in this and the resulting chaos and destabilisation it causes in the region. No state that is engaging in friendly relations with this fascist Pakistani regime can truly claim to uphold the values of democracy or human rights.

If you were Israeli leaders, and believed you were being globally accused of crimes you didn't commit in Gaza, what's the first thing you'd do? Urge the international media to go to Gaza and report the truth. But if you know the accusations are true, you'd ban international media from reporting freely. That's what Israel is doing even a year after a "cease-fire," and the reason could not be more obvious.

My mother, Aleema Khan @Aleema_KhanPK and my aunts, Dr Uzma Khan @DrUzma_KhanPK and Noreen Niazi @Noreen_KhanPK , remain behind bars. Their only crime is refusing to abandon their brother, Imran Khan @ImranKhanPTI throughout his imprisonment — a detention the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention found to be arbitrary and in violation of international law, and called for his immediate release. For three years, they have stood outside prisons and courtrooms, enduring everything from scorching heat exceeding 45°C to near-freezing conditions, demanding justice and the rule of law. They have endured tear gas, chemical-laced water cannons, repeated arrests and relentless intimidation. Yet no amount of pressure could silence them or force them to step aside. They stood their ground. They refused to abandon their brother. Since their latest imprisonment, they have been denied access to their family and legal counsel. They spent three years demanding justice for their brother. Now, like him, they find themselves denied the very rights they are fighting for. Standing by their brother is not a crime. Raising their voice for him is not a crime. Demanding justice and the rule of law is not a crime. Their detention must end.

These are not just any criminals. These are the people in charge of Pakistan. This is how they’ve abducted my family members. Masked, armed men dragging innocents from their houses and taking them to unknown locations.
Video footage of daylight abduction of a three time sitting Minister of KP Fazal Shakoor from Peshawar today. This is how the agencies are conducting their abductions ahead of the 27th Protest. Where else in the world do you see this? Woman and children not being spared.

Amnesty International calls on the Pakistani authorities to immediately release Imran Khan’s relatives and PTI workers, who have been targeted simply for their familial ties, political affiliation and plans to protest.
Members of former prime minister Imran Khan's family, including his three sisters, as well as activists from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have been arbitrarily detained. The targeting of his family and PTI party activists is a flagrant violation of their rights to liberty, freedom of expression, association and peaceful assembly. Such actions speak to the severity of the current restrictions in Pakistan. Amnesty International calls on the Pakistani authorities to immediately release Imran Khan’s relatives and PTI workers, who have been targeted simply for their familial ties, political affiliation and plans to protest.

🚨🇵🇰 BREAKING: Imran Khan’s family has just released a statement on the detention of his sister, Aleema Khan, and the police operation that followed at their family homes in Lahore. According to the family, Aleema left home on Sunday and NEVER returned... Her car was later found at a police station, before they learned she had been DETAINED under Pakistan’s Maintenance of Public Order law. Police then surrounded the family homes before launching a MASSIVE overnight raid, during which Imran’s other sisters, Uzma Khanum and Noreen Niazi, were detained alongside several relatives and staff. The family alleges officers kicked down Uzma’s bedroom door, dragged staff from their quarters, and detained family members before taking them away in an armored police vehicle... They further allege that 20+ officers entered an upstairs section where Aleema’s daughter-in-law was alone with her daughters, aged 2 and 7, attempted to arrest her, and later took her and the frightened children around the house to identify CCTV cameras and recording equipment, which officers proceeded to destroy. The family says Uzma and Noreen were ultimately separated from the others and transferred to jail, while relatives were given ZERO information about where the sisters had been taken... lawyers and family members have subsequently been denied access to them. The operation came days ahead of PTI’s planned Sept. 27 March on Islamabad, as Imran remains imprisoned; his sisters had been prominent public links between him and the outside world... Once again, the Khan family has suffered OUTRAGEOUS human rights abuses that the international community needs to URGENTLY look at!!! Source: Family of Imran Khan / Writer: Mhedi

I have never heard of a government prepping like this for a “mass casualty incident” against its own citizens. No doubt it has happened before, but this is incredible. Pakistan has told Islamabad hospitals to cancel elective surgeries and prepare bed space because a non-violent march is planned for 9/27.

Imran Khan’s former wife, @Jemima_Khan, on UK silence concerning Khan’s ongoing imprisonment in Pakistan. “I have repeatedly appealed to the UK government to intervene. Purported attempts at back channelling have evidently failed. The previous Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy informed me in writing that Britain would not  intervene if my sons, British citizens, are arrested when they travel to Pakistan to visit their father”.
Prime Minister @andyburnham and Foreign Secretary @Ed_Miliband : how much longer will Britain remain silent? For three years the father of my two sons, and Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, has been brutally penalised by his political opponents, in a personal vendetta by Army Chief, Asim Munir,  which according to the UN,  amounts to torture and which  is now taking a potentially fatal toll on his physical and mental health.  He has endured 3 years of solitary confinement. For nearly ten months now his family has been denied contact with him. He has been deprived of the most basic human contact, denied access to books, lawyers and doctors. The international human-rights standards are unequivocal. Under the UN’s Nelson Mandela Rules, solitary confinement lasting more than 15 consecutive days is prohibited and amounts to torture. He has endured this treatment not for 15 days, but for three years. Pakistan’s own Supreme Court has now intervened: ordering comprehensive  medical treatment, access to his personal doctor, regular family visits and twice-weekly calls with his sons. Yet those orders are being defied. This is no longer simply a Pakistani political matter. It is a human-rights emergency. He has deep and lifelong ties to Britain. He studied at Oxford University, captained Oxford University cricket and spent years playing county cricket in England. His relationship with this country stretches back more than half a century. His charitable activities were internationally recognised, and  include building the only free cancer hospital in Pakistan as well as a university. His sons, my two boys, Sulaiman and Kasim, are British citizens. They have been forced to watch their father’s health decline from thousands of miles away, prevented from visiting him, denied visas, publicly threatened by government officials with arrest themselves, and even denied court-mandated regular phone calls.  I have repeatedly appealed to the UK government to intervene. Purported attempts at back channelling have evidently failed. The previous Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy informed me in writing that Britain would not  intervene if my sons, British citizens, are arrested when they travel to Pakistan to visit their father.  @FCDOGovUK: Britain must now speak out publicly and unequivocally. Demand that Pakistan comply with its own Supreme Court;  restore Imran Khan’s medical access, his right to see his family, end his prolonged isolation and uphold his fundamental human rights. Pakistan is a Commonwealth country. Britain has a long and proud tradition of standing against arbitrary detention, inhumane treatment and the denial of fundamental rights. Those principles mean very little if we invoke them only selectively and neglect them when inconvenient. This an appeal to the new Burnham government  to please now do the right thing.
