It was an honor to join @SenTedCruz @SenatorCantwell @RepBresnahan @ALPAPilots @dcfireems and many others in support of the @famofflight5342 at their press conference yesterday. Our investigations are just the first step. Real safety change comes when our recommendations are implemented.
We issued 5 recommendations to the Department of War, 8 to the US Army, 2 to the Department of Transportation (DOT), 1 to the DOT Inspector General, 33 recommendations to FAA, and 1 to RTCA. The Board unanimously voted on Monday to designate 11 of the recommendations to FAA as unacceptable action. These include a longstanding recommendation to FAA to mandate the use of technology that will allow pilots to see surrounding traffic and avoid collision.

BREAKING: President Trump announces plans for a "major and long overdue" renovation of Washington Dulles International Airport.
Trump said he has been working closely with Cabinet and industry officials like Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and United CEO Scott Kirby.
"We are announcing plans to add more than 5,000,000 square feet of new or renovated space will replace the current C and D concourses, which are basic disasters, all the while preserving the iconic original terminal that is one of the great architects of the world."
Not so fast @Funkwrite, I have questions… what policies and procedures were in place to safeguard Felis catus, Lego passengers and responders, and property? Were those procedures followed? Was a safety management system in place and effectively carried out? What training was provided to the feline and their supervisor?

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Thank you to @SenTedCruz for once again calling for action to implement ADS-B In on all aircraft in all airspace. It’s been over 140 days since we adopted our recommendations; ADS-B In was the heart of those recommendations. Had ADS-B In been installed and operational on the PSA plane, the midair collision that occurred on Jan. 29, 2025, would’ve been prevented. It’s time for action; no more delays!

More than 1100 people on bicycles are killed annually in the US which is why @NTSB has long advocated for protected bike lanes (among other things), so @DDOTDC what’s up with the bike lanes along the southwest waterfront? Wharf management’s property ends at the start of the lanes. Almost took me out. Please fix this.
With that said, with road closures this weekend, @bikeshare is a great option! I saved close to $60 round trip and a whole lot of time this morning.

A few highlights: @Ford use of AI and telematics enabling fleet owners like the Federal Government to review the #safety of their drivers and @MagnaInt demo of #tech to safeguard occupants if vehicles power down, allowing them to escape in emergencies. It also allows responders to more easily gain access to vehicle cabins.
I’ve mentioned this risk many times to electric vehicle manufacturers and automated vehicle companies. Is that risk being addressed?

Congrats to @IAFFofficial for exceeding our recent safety recommendation!
Following our investigation of the 2023 fire aboard the Grande Costa D’Avorio at the Port of Newark we recommended that IAFF, @IAFC and @NVFC encourage their members to identify and address gaps in training for marine vessel fires. Tragically, two fire fighters died in the fire; six others were injured during the firefighting and rescue operations.
IAFF communicated the circumstances of the fire and our Board meeting to its membership, circulated our safety alert (link below) highlighting the need for improved training for land-based firefighters engaged with vessel fires, and developed an 8-hour training course on marine firefighting, which was offered as recently as April 29th.
Now that’s putting words into #safety action! Thank you to IAFF and its members for your safety leadership.

Update: Access to the docket system has now been restored for all but 42 investigations that remain under review. Once those reviews are completed, including the UPS Flight 2976 docket, access to the remaining dockets will be restored as quickly as possible.
The NTSB is aware that advances in image recognition and computational methods have enabled individuals to reconstruct approximations of cockpit voice recorder audio from sound spectrum imagery released as part of NTSB investigations, including the ongoing investigation of the crash last year of UPS flight 2976 in Louisville, Kentucky.
The NTSB does not release cockpit audio recordings. Federal law prohibits such public release due to the highly sensitive nature of verbal communications inside the cockpit. The NTSB takes these privacy restrictions seriously.
The NTSB docket system is temporarily unavailable as we examine the scope of the issue and evaluate solutions. We hope to restore access to the docket system as soon as possible.

It’s deeply troubling that emerging technology can be used to extract CVR audio from visualized data we share to help the public understand the circumstances of an accident.
Laws against releasing CVR audio exist to protect privacy, preserve the integrity of NTSB investigations, and out of respect for accident victims and their families during a time of tremendous loss.
NTSB is taking steps to address this issue. The public docket is offline for now, and we are urging X, Reddit, and others to take such disgusting, manipulated posts down. ⬇️
