There are two important things to take away from the OpenAI private round coming in smaller than expected.
1) [the obvious] Big investors getting more skittish about AI revenues ever meeting the AI capex. More to say on this soon.
2) the round was about the valuation mark more than the amount. I am sure they were ok trimming the amount to get a new mark, even if it fell short of what they were targeting. The do not need this number of billions of dollars of investment in this moment. But a new stock price to minimize dilution etc is worth a lot.

The next frontier for AI reasoning could be understanding how human cells behave.
@biohub's @lorigoler explains why new biological datasets could help AI make scientific discoveries:
"The idea is to sort of create this almost an oracle that's sort of like a generalizable reasoning model for the cell and for biology."

Replying to @bingfish
@bingfish was there at the founding of Electronic Arts in 1982, spent 18 years at Kleiner Perkins, and sat on Amazon's board for 15.
He was also on Zynga's board, which is why it lands when he says players felt relief when they quit Farmville while retention and revenue were still climbing.
So where's the line between good game design and gaming your users? His answer takes in TikTok doom scrolling, WhatsApp as the rare product nobody complains about overusing, the sponsored products Amazon still shows Prime members, and ChatGPT ending every answer with one more question.
Then @davemorin asks what the agent era keeps circling: what gets worse if your AI wins for you?
"Friction is what makes pearls. If you don't get a sand in the oyster, you just get an oyster." And the next frictions, he says, come from edge conditions nobody tested for.
Plus the wow/WTF scale he used to judge EA's Hall of Fame games, and the bet-your-job letter he kept in a drawer.

Big scoop.
First Scoop: OpenAI is buying Google's AI chips.
It's a big win for Google’s TPU chip business, which is a growing challenger to Nvidia. Also follows Oracle, which today said it would buy and rent out TPUs to customers.

Scoop: Anduril wanted a new six-building manufacturing complex near Long Beach Airport up and running by March 1, 2027. But Southern California Edison couldn't have enough grid power ready by then. That problem opened the door to Critical Loop, a startup founded by SpaceX and Palantir veterans, landing its first contract to provide temporary battery backup to giant industrial users.
