Logan Federico was 22, visiting friends in Columbia, South Carolina. She did not make it home. Early on May 3, 2025, police say Alexander Dickey was already breaking into houses on Cypress Street. He took keys, a wallet, and a gun from one home, then went into the unlocked house next door, where Logan was staying. He took her cards and shot her in the chest. Columbia police called her a true victim, not an intended target. Her father, Stephen Federico, does not accept “random.” He says Dickey was a career criminal who killed her because she could identify him. Before that morning, Dickey had faced at least 25 felony charges. A missing fingerprint left his record incomplete, so a 2023 burglary was treated like a first offense and he got probation instead of prison. He was arrested the next day in Lexington County after another break-in and a house fire. He is charged with murder and held without bond. A year later, Sen. Lindsey Graham and Rep. Russell Fry introduced Logan’s Law with her parents, a public registry of violent offenders meant to close the record gaps that left Dickey on the street.
