#BobChapek had a career arc at the #DisneyCompany which offered rich material for an entertaining and informative book, but this is not that book. Click the link for a review of his book. Image credit: #CNBC

This sand clock counted down to the opening of #Universal #Islandsofadventure. On the preview day I was in a group of #WDW executives who came to see and judge the completion ‘up the road’. More on YouTube.com/jimhshull
“X” closing at #MagicMountain marks the end of a chapter. Design and construction of “X” resulted in #Arrow (#Matterhorn ride vendor) going bankrupt. The ride was extreme but not rough. Examples still run in other parks.
#BobChapek book #Behindthecastle is out and the read through has started. Finished the introduction and the tone is already off putting and defensive. I’ll have a full review on #jimhshull
The painted design on the building pulls attention without adding anything. Detail for detail sake. Question when designing should be ‘is the change fixing a problem’?
The poster for Frozen: A Musical Invitation has finally been removed from above the entrance of the Animation Celebration Theater. The show ended earlier this year, and a replacement has not yet been announced. ❄️ #DisneylandParis
I was interviewed regarding Bob Chapek’s book and will have a full review soon. Good and bad.

Desire to build isn’t the same as ability to deliver. Twice Epcot ‘kicked the tires’ to build a #Matterhorn and twice failed. If WDW had built the ride it wouldn’t have been as meaningful as the original in Anaheim. Everest was built at #AK with the yeti.
Since we’re all talking about the rumor of The Matterhorn being torn down to be rebuilt in a new location, let’s talk about when WDW almost got its own Matterhorn.
Disney considered building a Switzerland pavilion for World Showcase in the late 80s, and the centerpiece was supposed to be a gigantic Matterhorn-style mountain. The pavilion would’ve been between Italy and Germany.
It would have been a bobsled-style roller coaster, inspired by the real Swiss Alps and, naturally, the Matterhorn attraction at Disneyland. The proposed Matterhorn was supposed to be approximately 192 feet tall and 200 feet in diameter. The entire ride would have been contained inside the mountain.
Disney’s concept called for a bobsled-type ride, which would have fit Switzerland’s identity particularly well. Rather than guests riding in traditional coaster trains, the attraction would evoke the experience of racing down an Alpine bobsled run.
And unlike Disneyland’s Matterhorn, which is essentially a mountain-shaped roller coaster, the EPCOT concept was intended to be integrated into a full Swiss-themed pavilion. Other things in the pavilion would be a clock & music-box shop a gourmet candy/food shop, a clothing/accessories shop, a 230-seat restaurant upstairs and more.
But sadly, due to money and other priorities, it never happened.
The rumor that #Disneyland is considering rebuilding the classic #Matterhorn if true would be in the investment range of $800 million. Design, construction, demo, etc each add to the number. Possible but unlikely. More on YouTube.com/jimhshull
If #Tomorrowland is a rebuild it could become Tomorrowland 2055, an absolutely ambitious project that failed to launch. More on YouTube.com/jimhshull
The rumor that at #Disneyland the #Matterhorn will be demolished and rebuilt is unlikely to happen. Assuming that occurred it could amount to a $800 million+ project with the ride and surrounding development.
Eastside Disneyland project is huge involving ramps, flyovers and coordination with Anaheim city streets. A two (maybe more) phase project when completed will release land for more rides in DL & DCA. More on YouTube.com/jimhshull
Toy Story Land Disney World has added Bonnie and her toys turning a ride that opened in 2018 into a dance party rave. This video goes into detail why this move is a brand withdrawal and is uninspired.
