If we don't key in on the correct frame, we get the location moving all over the place. Not ideal. But having the key frame of release turns our location into a static point to evaluate (first video) and not the moving target.
Now, we can do this process to look at video. To determine what frame the catcher is in the target position, we need to measure release. This project utilizes MediaPipe's Pose to estimate release. Using that key frame we can estimate the target location for video. Target 6s 19h
We measure pitch loc. at the plate. Utilizing plate / rubber location and relative camera angle , a projection onto the front of plate plane can be created. Cyan, plate width at catcher depth. Red, plate /rubber. Purple, target at front of plate. Target (4.5 side, 23.8 in high)
Did more work utilizing BaseballCV to track command. The first iteration leveraged just static images. That worked pretty well. The gold target is estimated spot at catcher depth, but that's not where we measure location.
Command Tracking Example Utilizing BaseballCV
Match this up with ball flight data and you have your command analogue without much fuss.
Messing around with different applications of BaseballCV. Automated command grading’s an obvious big upside.
1st Tiger Hit Stove in the books! Happy we were able to talk to a great group of coaches in Missouri and help shine a light on we approach Player Development
