Fr. Mike Schmitz is an amazing man. A goofy guy that can reach anybody, which is why the place was full of every age group, man and woman. The main talk was on a few parables that Jesus said, and some explanations on them, clarifying them, and intertwining them with his own stories. ------ The two main takeaways I got from him were this. 1. How to speak about the faith. Rarer is it to find a man to speak about our faith like he does. With humility, jokes, energy and in totality...the depth and reverence it still deserves. I don't know too many men I've ever encountered or have seen speak so easily and with as much genuine passion as him. Really a gift and understandable why he does what he does. 2. How to be a witness of our faith. Our actions are not show or please ourselves or others, but to bless those around us as we sanctify our souls to Christ. ------ It was nothing mind blowing. It wasn't a huge motivational and gripping talk. Not an apologetics masterclass. Not a church history lesson. Not a catechism rundown. But it was perfect the way it was. I'm usually hyper logical focused, sometimes I look at the negatives first before the positives, or sometimes I am Mr. nit picky. I can be critical. But It was exactly what I did and didn't expect. All I know is that my heart is warm, my mind is working, and my love for the Catholic faith is deeper. Thank you Fr. Mike Schmitz.

My mind, heart and soul are a little bit fried. It’s been a very life-giving but schedule eating week. So I’m done a little early today and I’m working on moving the Suzuki into the garage to begin our next project.

Every once in a while, and the midst of prayer, I experienced a deep sorrow for my sins, weaknesses, and failures Today, while wrestling with it, I caught a whiff of the inevitability of the victory of Our God; I was absolutely overwhelmed by it. God will defeat me. I have hope.
The hunger of Our Father to save us is beyond anything we can imagine. His love is a force that is relentless, irresistible and unconquerable. It is that which will save us; will triumph over our pride, our foolishness, our fears. Today, as every day, is a great day to contemplate the inevitable victory of our God. His Love will triumph. #talkedtotheboss

It’s a remarkable thing to be a Catholic priest in these days. I assume to some extent it’s always been like this but for the most part, we really didn’t know how bad many of our leaders are. In the end, a man leaves seminary taken with the idea of Church and the rest of his life is the reality of the Church taking that idea from you and smashing it to pieces. At core, the problem is that our leaders are selected by our leaders. When they choose a Bishop, the most important trait is “who does this guy know?” and Jesus does not have to be on that list of people. This week, we’ve had one Cardinal choose for the second year in a row to give an award to an abortion radical. Now we have a cardinal who thinks leading people to Christ is a bad idea. Ugh. The church is led by all kinds of men: some are saints in the making, some are vaguely aware of the basics of Christianity, some are functional atheists. A vast majority of them hace two things in common: 1. Absolutely, positively no accountability. Neither of these Cardinals will face any consequences from their brothers or from the Holy Father. It’s just not done. 2. Absolutely, positively no long term experience as pastors in churches. They don’t know the grind. They don’t know God’s people. They have almost no sense of the reality of the daily life of a Christian; they have no “smell of the sheep” on them. I’ve been at a critical stage in my life for the last few years, and so much of it centers around the simple reality: I can look at the problem, describe it, bemoan it, try to get the people in charge to see it. That has born absolutely no fruit. What do we do? We charge forward boldly and with great joy. Each of us reading this is part of the problem. I am part of the problem. I am a sinner, and I have affection for some of my sin. But I also have something that you do as well: the grace, joy, and love of Jesus. We have the Holy Spirit in us that raised Jesus from the dead. Each of us reading this has everything we need from God to be a saint. I mean it. We absolutely have to decide to love Jesus with all our heart, soul, mind and strength and press forward, knowing that the Good Shepherd is alive and well, guiding us, protecting us, genuinely caring about us. The problem has been described and complained about ad nauseam. Enough. Let’s get busy being the answer. Let’s get busy being saints. “In the heart of the Church, I will be love” -St. Therese
LATEST: Cardinal Vesco says the Catholic Church is “not there to convert” The Archbishop of Algiers said: “We are the Church of this people. Not a proselytising Church, not a Church that is there to convert, but a Church that aspires to be one of the components of this people.” He called proselytism “poison” because it treats another person’s religion as false, and argued Christians should choose fraternity over seeing themselves as a “besieged fortress.” Read the full report at @RealAdVaticanum advaticanum.com/article/card…

I was expecting Israel to be a little America—mostly English-speaking, a land full of convenience. What I found was distinctly Middle Eastern—the people are brash, speak with their hands, and often don't know a lick of English. There are stray cats everywhere, mopeds, and graffiti. The street signs are in Hebrew, English, and Arabic. There is a mosque on prime beachfront property in Tel Aviv. There is every kind of citizen imaginable. I saw Ethiopian Jews serving in the IDF. While touring an ancient Jewish site, I ran into a group of Arab schoolchildren also there to learn. I met a Mizrahi cab driver whose parents fled Morocco in the 50s. Douglas Murray famously made Americans irate when he flamed Dave Smith on an episode of Joe Rogan for having never traveled to Israel—but he’s right. Visiting Israel shows you just how wrong the west is about the Jewish state. Just go there.
