Congratulations to the brilliant @iquivoid for making this year's list of @TurntableCharts' 30 under 30. Boy has been on a roll for @tweetedbyCC. I had the pleasure of writing a two-paragraph blurb for John as he receives this well-deserved honour. turntablecharts.com/30Under3…

AI seems to be one other thing that Africans and Africans in the Diaspora literary communities must deal with. The disproportionate witch-hunting of our gifted writers, especially at the height of their success, is disheartening. And the continuous finger-wagging from agents working (for) with Pangram makes the campaign even more legible. How do you even trust a system that intends to use you as tinder for new trends? We must keep building from within and celebrate platforms that prioritise our creators' and stories' well-being.

Being raised Nigerian middle class pentecostal christian almost always means you land in the Diaspora on the right wing. If you are mildly centrist, then you are deserving of a slow clap.

Writing is really rewriting. The first draft is scaffolding or shit. But you already know. But there are some geniuses who get it right the first time. They are the exception & sometimes their jazz sef no dey work.

Material, I am sorry
Las las Review writing no be race. No be first come go be final. Speed has its benefit. Distance too. Everything in moderation. And reviews are never exhaustive or definitive. You can always return to the material. And say, material I am sorry.

I returned to Seyi Vibez’s Thy Kingdom Come. What a record! Perfect pitch and fluid lyricism yield catchy pop neologisms. In a single record, he unleashed enough material to fuel his creativity for three EPs. Flakky yielded the street anthem, Oblee. Talk about alchemy. Something that's obviously been missing from his recent records.

“The countryside is one of the most beautiful things about England. I had felt this way since I first encountered it on a bus trip from London to Manchester to sit the PLAB 2exam, after three weeks of coaching at a preparatory centre. That was in 2017. The Megabus moved fast, but my perch on the upper deck allowed me to take in the British pastoral. After that exam, I returned to Nigeria, but the view stayed with me.”

May God rest the dead, the SARS dead, buried in haste, in shallow graves. But more importantly may their deaths not be in vain. May their souls find closure. And may we have the fortitude to #EndSARS
